The Tale of Two Cities according to Stephi and Heiko – Part 253

It’s that time of the year that shows one of the biggest differences between our two cities: it’s carnival season or as we call it in Cologne, the fifth season.

The difference is like night and day as in Cologne you will so many costumed people from last Thursday till the upcoming Tuesday and nobody will look at you twice, unless you have no idea what you stepped into. You see a lot of red and white, which are our colors, but also all kinds of fun costumes or generic ones. It all depends on what kind of carnival person you are. Over the last couple of years, we have told you a lot about carnival in Cologne, the parades, the parties in bars and the carnival meetings in the big halls with music and “funny” speeches. I myself prefer to go to a bar, have some beers and dance/sing with the music. That is my type of carnival.

And then there is Munich. If Stephi would walk around with a costume there, a lot of people would turn theirs heads and look at least twice. They even use another word for carnival, which just sounds strange to us in Cologne. Yet, there are a lot of other areas that use a different word. Still strange.

And since I am out to as lot of parties, this week’s edition is rather short but we amuse you with pictures of ourselves, and Stephi making an effort for carnival in the first picture. The second one is obviously myself in costume for my Saturday party!
