Thiria is awesome because badass mature women/moms are a rare breed in SFF. Watching her navigate the demands of her job, with specific reference to the requirement of keeping her husband and daughter safe is interesting, and gets interesting-er when it turns out that Theril has the Force.

I'm also in love with the theme of characters processing bad things that happen to them through the lens of "So how can I redeem/salvage something positive from this experience?" Thiria's ongoing work extracting agents who are ground down by the demands of their job falls squarely into the middle of that.

Alaana is awesome because 100% self-made woman, in an environment and cultural context where the odds are very much against that happening. Better yet when that's specifically on the basis of knowing things, and maintaining a network of cross-faction informants
