Writing update November 2014: or, State of the Joanne, or, Dude, where's my Book?
Can you believe it's been two years since my debut romance A QUESTION OF TIME was published? Time sure flies when you're working two jobs! The jobs, alas, do not involve writing. One is essentially a full time position; the other is my freelance illustration career. Unfortunately writing often gets the short end of the stick.
I do have a few things up in the air. The first is a novel-length "side-quel" to AQOT called DOORS which features more alternate timelines and timey-wimey shenanigans. It's completely written; but it's been stuck in something of an editing limbo while I've been on a writing semi-hiatus. Anyway, as of now, I am coming to the end (hopefully) of the third revision. I was actually in the middle of finishing up this last spring when the teenage son of a friend and long-time client was killed in a car crash; and it was just all so sad that I lost the heart to write for a long time. However, since it's so close to being... finally revised and DONE!... that I'm going to do my damnedest to push it through and finish this draft. I MUST DO IT FOR ALAN FORREST.
Another project is a novella I co-wrote with capnflynn (aka katlaurange) which is a sci-fi retelling of Rapunzel. I'm very proud of this story, and right now we're considering our options for publication.
The third is a short story called FLY BY NIGHT, which set in the same universe as A QUESTION OF TIME and DOORS. It was originally going to be published in a SF romance anthology by Champagne Press, but this anthology fell through last year. Right now I'm debating whether I should host it for free here or possibly expand it for publication. Hmmmm...
Anyway, that's what's going on. The writing gods be willing, there should be more news soon. Send me any questions if you have any!
