Alan Hunter (1923-2012), ''White Dwarf'', #38, Feb. 1983
There was a moment when she discovered how she had been double-crossed that added three distinct new words to Gently's vocabulary.
Alan Hunter, Gently by the Shore
Books read in May.
I read 8 books this month. I will add that I have still been home from work due to my car accident in February so I do have a lot more time to read the usual. I sort of surprised myself with that amount.
Little Women-Louisa May Alcott: I really enjoyed this one. It was a slow paced story and I just love all the sister in bookform. It was a bit preachy at times but at the same time it also gave these advices and truths that still are important today.
2. We have always lived in the castle- Shirley Jackson: WOW! This book. This book has been in my mind for days after I read it and I kept coming back to it, @chained-to-the-mirror knows because I kept asking questions and sharing thoughts about it. The athmosphere in this book is very special and the story overall was just so different. It's the kind of book you want to read for the first time again.
3. Gently does it-Alan Hunter; It's the first book in the Inspector George Gently series and I read it because I'm following the show on BBC First and I admit, I have a small crush on the character and wanted to know the source material. It's also in a slow pace that you're not used to with a crime book but I actually enjoyed it. It was slow but never boring.
4) The eye of the bedlam bride-Matt Dinneman: Book 6 in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and damn, it was a big one. I think it was more then 700 pages but it also never got boring. Just the overall main plot is maybe a bit over my head.... I do feel as if I rushed through this book and didn't fully understand everything going on in it. So I'm giving myself a break before reading book 7.
5) Jurassic Park-Michael Crichton: Found this in the second hand book store. I LOVE the movie (movies) but have never read the book so I finally did. I'm so glad I did. The movie and the book are both amazing but clearly Not the same. It was fun finding all the differences and sometimes being shocked by them. (My god Hammond the book version is just so damn awful!).
6) The Lost World- Michael Crichton: This book was actually at my parents house and the reason I took home book 1 from the second hand book store. This book is Nothing like the movie. I did find this one a bit less fun then the first one. There is a lot more talk about the science (also Malcolm the book version is a lot less cool then the movie version), and the science talk takes a couple too many pages for my taste. But overall I did enjoy it and I think I want to try some more books by him.
7) And than there were none- Agatha Christie; This was a re-read! Although it almost felt like the first time again because it's been very long since I read this one. I still knew who the killer was but all the rest; the details about how/why/who... I had forgotten. This was such a fun one. Christie has such an easy writing style and you just want to keep reading.
8) The Cornish Wedding Murder-Fiona Leitch: This one has been on my 'want to read' list for a while and somehow I just decided to try it yesterday. I started it around 10 PM and I just finished it today around 7.30 PM. I just flew through this, I just really enjoyed it. I liked all the characters and the banter between Jodie and DCI Nathan. This is a series and I kinda plan to read all of them in the future. It was just fun!
OH; I also finished reading 'Til Morning by @not-close-to-straight (I can't wait to get my hands on the physical book and then re-read it again) and I am following along with Razorblade Without a Handle by Stella from @therollingstonys. Which I admit is living rent free in my mind. 😊
So yes. A good reading month. I think only one of these got 4 stars from me. All the rest was 5. I don't really have any set plans for the books I want to read in June. I have a book shelve full of unread ones but I don't want to force myself to read them. Specially the classics. Those do tend to be harder, specially in English, and right now I just want the books to be fun and light(er).
Happy reading all!

Ignore the spelling mistakes, I'm logged out of Grammerly and it probably shows.
