Night Moves premiered in New York City on 11 June 1975.
Written by Alan Sharp and directed by Arthur Penn, the film received critical praise (Roger Ebert listed it as his 2nd favorite film of the year, behind Nashville), and a BAFTA and New York Film Critics Circle nominations for Gene Hackman, but failed to find an audience when it was first released. It has since been called "a seminal modern noir work from the 1970s" and one of Penn's best films.
