I don’t think there’s anything to be done. He sees red the moment he senses a human nearby. But you can try to save yourself if you are quicker than him. Use the surroundings to your advantage to hide and confuse him. If possible, get into a dense forest where he can easily smash into trees. If you find a small hiding you can squeeze into, there’s a chance he can’t reach you – but be prepared to hide there for long bc he might guard the area, waiting for you to reveal yourself.

Well, you can also stall him by throwing your fellow human beings his way if there are any. (Oh, you already did that, very evil, very smart, but that might not be enough to save you)
You’re as good as dead in an open area with that beast.
You could escape his reaching claws at those rare instances when he suddenly stops and looks around as if he's lost, standing still until panic sets in... because he was struck by a piece of memory... (?)
