hello hi so i saw it in your tags and a couple other posts on tumblr also and was wondering if the foxhole court was good and if i should read it?
I’d just like to say, that I am incredibly anal about my url, and have never changed it to anything fandom related since I started here in about 2012/2013. Until THIS SERIES.
Otherwise I am incredibly biased because I am a starved queer dying for some representation that isn’t baited or unhealthy.
I picked up my mother’s kindle fire last week because I follow a handful of people who blog about the series and I saw one of those powerpoint posts/memes about Why You Should Read The Foxhole Court. I read that post to my friend Charles and he was like “oh man that sounds fun” and I ended up reading it bc I kept remembering the power point post.
If you like reading about troubled young adults who have been fucked up in various ways by drugs, abuse, gangs, mental illness and a whole slew of other things, you will enjoy TFC. If you enjoy themes involving sports and how important they are to people, you will enjoy TFC. Similarly if you like page-turning suspense, violence, crime syndicates from the US, UK and Japan, and fucked up family dynamics you will enjoy TFC.
You may also hate it like I do when these poor damn kids don’t seem to ever catch a break, but you might also revel in the wonderful character development that emerges throughout the series. The main character is an unreliable narrator in many ways, and some language may not be politically correct (given the exposure of the main character), and the POC diversity is rather slim.
HOWEVER, I don’t think any of these character’s traumas are underplayed, and they’re treated seriously. I read the series in three days, and probably stayed up until 3 am until I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. I’m STILL thinking about some of the characters.
Most importantly though, and this isn’t too spoilery I don’t think, but the main ship in this series is incredible in the fact that it is m/m, highly emphasizes CONSENT, and one half isn’t exclusively Gay, he’s demisexual (arguably because of the abuse he endured as a kid).
I hope that was enough to encourage you to read it!
