Pediatrician ALASTAIR + DEAN for @alaynestone's birthday!
SUPERNATURAL | S4 EP9 : I Know What You Did Last Summer | part 2/3
happy winchester wednesday!! tell us about sam being sniffy with dean
Sam smells Dean so much in canon that I feel like the scent kink on his end is, at the very least, implied canon. He does it randomly, especially when Dean is especially smelly, usually to gauge what is going on with him. It’s always very obvious and openly sniffing him, in a very animalistic way that gives me werewolf!Sam feelings, but that’s a side quest we’re not going to follow at this moment.
Sam must have been attuned with Dean’s scent because it was always around him growing up. Living in small, cramped spaces with unusual smells, Dean (and to a lesser extent because he was around sporadically at best, John) is the only constant that Sam has that can give him a sense of comfort and familiarity. Think about traveling somewhere and then getting home and the sensory feelings that come over you when you smell your space, your home and how relaxed you feel in that moment. That’s how Sam feels about Dean and how Dean smells.
When Dean leaves to hunt with John, Sam would sleep with his pillow or dirty clothes he left behind. Instead of a stuffed animal, Sam had Dean to comfort him and bury his face into when he was upset and crying. He slept with Dean like a security blanket. This no doubt fucked with his head when he hit puberty and all his wires got crossed, with attraction bleeding into his intense feelings of comfort and safety—plus, he can never escape Dean, who shares his bed and smothers him with affection and spars with him, his scent all around him and all over him. Sorry to teen Sam who wakes up with an erection and his face buried in his brother’s armpit who is also his crush and also his whole world, no wonder he is so messed up. Of course he jerked off inhaling Dean’s clothes or dirty underwear.
I like to headcanon that Sam must have smelled Dean before he saw him the night of the pilot, the scent of the impala’s exhaust in the air, Dean’s cologne caught on the breeze around the entrance to Sam’s apartment. He was on edge all day because of it and was waiting for something to happen. I think his sense of smell is somewhat heightened, or he trained himself the way Sam can figure out the mileage to get somewhere while blindfolded via counting. Getting his hands on Dean was important, but wrestling him and getting up close to smell him, his first taste of home in two years.

happy wincest wednesday, ava!! do you have any preseries headcanons you'd like to share?
hiiii this is from over a year ago but we are so back. here is my best take:
i think the most compelling part about the preseries era is that sam and dean spend their childhoods fundamentally misunderstanding each other and their respective situations under john, which is always and forever my main reason for seeking out fic set in that era. i loooove the tension, i love the vibes, i love the misery and the small hope-spots and the tiny birthday cake slice dean charms out of a waitress, wraps in a napkin, and brings home to sam (and then gets too ashamed to give him), the fathers day card sam has to write in school and signs to dean and then drops in a puddle on the way home, the loneliness and the us against the world and the well, not really, because you're leaving with dad again--
so i believe that in sam's senior year, he and dean spend a lot of time staying up and ranking the shittiest made for tv movies they catch on whatever cable they occasionally have, and for dean's birthday that year, sam gets dean a certified blockbuster membership card (and gets made fun of all night for ignoring the totally solid video rental store around the block from their motel that has tons of softcore porn, sam, if you'd only open your eyes). throughout the next few months, any time they get into an argument, one of them will come back with a dvd-- whether it's from blockbuster or shoplifted from a convenience store, watching it together is an apology, and when sam leaves that year, dean keeps that ranking list wrapped around his blockbuster card, tucked deep in his duffle bag.
DEAN + AFFECTION
never apologize for ranting in my reblogs. the self righteous shaming of people liking their very real and awesome size difference is very funny when the same fans regularly claim sam bottoms because he's a woman
the utter lack of self awareness always astounds me, at least we own up to it (not least of all because it's a very real thing, lol)
it's very "our blessed 'sam is a woman so he bottoms' vs. their barbaric 'samdean size difference is hot and should be acknowledged as such'" which is silly at best and infuriating at worst
SANSA STARK APPRECIATION MONTH + DAY SIX: THE VALE (2)
Sansa Stark went up the mountain, but Alayne Stone is coming down. It was a strange thought. Coming up, Mya had warned her to keep her eyes on the path ahead, she remembered. “Look up, not down,” she said … but that was not possible on the descent. I could close my eyes. The mule knows the way, he has no need of me. But that seemed more something Sansa would have done, that frightened girl. Alayne was an older woman, and bastard brave.
tribute to the final girls
Does this ever end? Will there always be someone out there turning little boys into monsters? Will we always be final girls? Will there always be monsters killing us? How do we stop the snake from eating its own tail?
