Sam stared out the passenger side of the Impala. The farmers’ fields slid by, just endless expanses of green broken by rusted out irrigation equipment and occasional bales of hale that had already be harvested. He and Dean were on a hunt.
John had given them their marching orders and sent them off post-haste. “Dean, watch out for Sammy. Sam, behave” had been delivered in clipped tones.
A simple hunt. Some kind of creature in the woods preying on campers. Dean would be in charge, and anyway Dean was loaded with weapons. Sam would do as he was told.
“Kiddo, it’ll be easy, you’ll see,” Dean assured him, bumping Sam’s elbow in a companionable manner.
Sam frowned. “I don’t want it to be easy, I want it to take forever.”
