BIOGRAPHY --
Growing up, Alba lived with her irresponsible mother who was more interested in her string of boyfriends than she was with her own daughter. Her father was a mystery in her life that her mother refused to solve, so she was stuck playing parent to the person who was supposed to take care of her. She learned many things from a young age -how to roll her mother on her side when she passed out, how to cook and clean a house- but she mostly learned that if she couldn’t trust her own flesh and blood to take care of her, she couldn’t trust anyone. Al couldn’t count on her hands how many times she’s had to take care of her mother when she was drunk or had to play the grown up in most of her situations. She also couldn’t count how many times she had defend herself during one of her mother’s particularly violent outbursts. Her mother was a teenager stuck in a grown woman’s body and she refused to grow up, not even for her daughter that very much needed her. Alba made do, however. She kept herself out of the house, preferring to spend her time in a public library reading and absorbing everything she could. Eventually she became weaving her own stories, using them to escape the bitter life she lived in. Alba was determined to make something of herself outside of her mother’s miserable existence and nothing was going to stop her.
It all finally became too much the day her mother burned their house down. Alba doesn’t know if it was on purpose as her mother claimed, all she knows was she lost everything in that fire. She woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of smoke and flames encasing part of their house. She barely managed to get out, suffering burns on her back that would perpetually be there. Alba’s mother was facing charges of neglect and abuse and wasn’t allowed to see her, though Alba was pretty sure she didn’t want to see her mother ever again for all she cared. She spent her remaining teenage years in foster care and eventually went off to college, determined to start a new life all her own. It’s been almost ten years since the incident, and she’s finally at a point now where she wants to find her father. With her mother in the wind, she only has public information to go on, but she refuses to give up until the day comes when she came be reunited with that part of herself she had never really known.
