December has been such a crazy-busy month that not only has it taken me three weeks to get this curtain call photo up on my tumblr, but I believe I omitted to mention on Tumblr that I was making the trip to Barcelona for this Tristan!

Sarah Connolly sings Brangäne along with Iréne Theorin (Isolde), Stefan Vinke (Tristan), Greer Grimsley (Kurwenal), and Albert Dohmen (Marke) in a live performance of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde broadcast from the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Thursday, December 7 on Catalunya Música.
It’s that Messiah time of year again. The Handel and Haydn Society of Boston makes a strong entry with Katherine Watson, Christine Rice, Allan Clayton, and Sumner Thompson. Sunday, December 10 on WCRB. Note: this performance is scheduled for broadcast on Sunday the 10th, in local time; it shows up at 0:00 on the 11th on World Concert Hall because WCH uses Greenwich Mean Time for all listings.

Reminder! Live broadcast TONIGHT (Thursday, December 7) of Tristan und Isolde from the Gran Teatre del Liceu, with Sarah Connolly in the role of Brangäne. Her co-stars include Iréne Theorin (Isolde), Stefan Vinke (Tristan), Albert Dohmen (Marke), and Greer Grimsley (Kurwenal). Josep Pons conducts. The broadcast starts at 7:00 p.m. Barcelona time, which is 6:00 p.m. in the UK and 1:00 p.m. EST in North America. You can listen online via World Concert Hall or navigate directly to the Catalunya Música website.
Looking ahead to Triz und Iz
Item 1: For anyone who’s interested, there’s an essay by the director Àlex Ollé on the Spanish Ópera Actual website where he discusses the production of Tristan und Isolde currently under rehearsal at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, created in 2011 for the Opéra de Lyon. Opening night at the Liceu will be November 28. The stars include Iréne Theorin, Stefan Vinke, Sarah Connolly, Albert Dohmen, and Greer Grimsley.
Item 2: Tristan und Isolde is scheduled for live radio broadcast by Catalunya Música from the Liceu on the evening of December 7, starting at 7:00 p.m. local time. If you want to catch it, mark your calendar! I don’t think it will be available on demand after the live broadcast (though I’m not positive).
