I can’t post this on Facebook because it would have Real Life Consequences™ but this is what I would say:

If you voted UCP today, just know that you voted against my rights as an LGBT+ person. Know that you voted against the education and healthcare systems that I so desperately need. Know that you’re part of the reason I cried on and off for a solid hour and couldn’t get past how afraid I felt. If you voted UCP today, you told me that you don’t care about me or my future, or the future of our province in general.

In summary- if you voted UCP, and ESPECIALLY if you can’t even tell me why you voted UCP beyond “uhh because my family always does and because they’ll help the economy”.... then unfriend me, unfollow me, and get out of my life.

To the Province of Alberta,

I know you want the economy to turn around and oil to boom, I want that as much as anybody. But sometimes there’s things more important. Like human rights. We’re facing mandatory GSA reportings, classrooms with 50 kids with 1 teacher, hospitals with 10 patients to 1 nurse. Slashes of wages to those teachers and nurses. I hope everybody who voted UCP does not have kids in the education system, or will need healthcare in the next 4 years. I hope you don’t know any LGBTQ+. I hope you don’t know anyone who’s had or will need an abortion. I hope you don’t know any healthcare workers or teachers. I hope you don’t complain when the price of the carbon tax increases and the money goes straight to Ottawa. And I hope you understand that the government does not control the price of oil, and when the federal government approves the pipeline next month, you remember who laid all the groundwork and fought hard for it.

Going to bed with a heavy heart tonight. And will try to enjoy my job while I can still perform it safely

Just got home from work to see the start of election results. UCP are the projected winners.

I am so fucking sad and I am so sorry primarily to LGBTQ youth who couldn’t vote but also to POC, single parents, those in poverty, and vulnerable individuals.

Our province failed you today. I can only hope for the best and fight as much as I can.

My dad joked that he and my mom felt bad that they voted for the UCP party in the election and all I can think is WHY THE FUCK DID YOU VOTE FOR THEM THEN!!!!!??????!!!!!???

Alberta failed me tonight. And many others. Am I surprised? No.

But we must keep going and remember anything is possible!! I believe Rachel will continue to do great things and perhaps she’ll have another chance again.

As a future educator in this province I promise to treat all students equally. I am an Albertan who supports LGBTQ. I support women’s rights. I support health care. I support the importance of educating students. I will teach them the importance of working together and fighting for what you believe in. I will teach them that the only way to make a difference is to keep working for something you consider important. You must be the change you want to see in the world. Alberta must learn. We must do better. We are more than oil and gas. We are people who must start to care about everyone in this province and not just the 1% because there is another 99% out there waiting. #BetterOffWithRachel

Tonight we are disappointed. But tonight - we move forward still. Tonight- we keep going.

This is just depressing to see just how stupid my city really is. At least where I live stayed orange.

At anyone who knows: My riding was declared ‘too close to call’. We will have a by-election but I am curious to know if ALL candidates will be on the ballot or just the two candidates who tied?
