Holby City S20 E34 - All Business
So, John Gaskell is officially one of the most dangerous characters that Holby have ever hosted. Not to mention fairly unhinged. But it got me thinking this week, he’s basically been portrayed as this highly secretive, deceitful person, so basically, pretty (totally!) unlikeable. BUT, if a character had performed these very same avante garde actions but with a more personable attitude, would we be more tolerant of the persistent rule breaking? I have to say, I think we would. But I guess it’s a moot point, because he is who he is, and so we continue to plod along awaiting his inevitable downfall, and hoping like hell that he doesn’t take the entire hospital down with him. (Just Meena, haha!) At least Roxanna has continued to develop her balls and is still standing up to him - and has finally spoken to Hanssen about it, albeit obliquely. Let’s hope she manages to dig the dirt and pull the plug upon her return.
Donna’s former headmistress storyline plodded along, but it lost me when Donna informed Xav that the headmistress had even had something good to say about him. Before that, I thought the head was intelligent and discerning. But at that point, I lost all respect for her!
Glad Meena got chucked out of Neuro, gutted that we have to put up with her on AAU. I will literally pay the Holby writers if they give her a suitable comeuppance, and soon. Cannot stand her - and dear god, what is with the way she spoke to Donna?! (I know it was over Xav, but who the hell does she think she is?).
Finally, what on earth was with all the camera angles of Donna and Xav having a drink in Albie’s? I assumed initially that it was supposed to represent someone observing them, but from the at least 3 different angles, it must be more than one person? Or just some pretty shoddy artistic direction. Did not like it at all.
Bit of a plodding episode all round. May have seemed better if you like the Gaskell stuff.
So, next week we have the big Sacha ep. I might just save time and start biting my fingernails now...
