“We have a beautiful relationship with the sisters and I’ve worked with them on several bespoke pieces for Flo,” says Johnson, who knows instinctively when she’s stumbled across a look that’s just right for the singular artist. “When I started looking at the world that was being created for this performance, I knew the collection was perfect for it – even the way it was shot. The dress felt like Lungs, but it also felt like Dance Fever. It’s like Florence: then and now. There’s always an element of light and dark – ethereal but also gothic,” Johnson says of sourcing looks for Welch, be they designer, custom or vintage. Styling the star is less a cerebral process, more an intuitive one, she explains. “When I see something, it’s almost like my body has a physical ‘yes’ response. Intutively, I just know.”
