As I lay in bed that night - the moonlight flooding in as there were no curtains on my windows - I thought: this is what I am going to be to my best friend and her husband for the rest of our lives. A hanger-on. A passenger in the backseat of their swanky car. I'm going to be one of those loser friends who you often see on the outskirts of an affluent, happy family. The one whose life never quite comes together.

MY DAUGHTER’S FRIEND’S HOLIDAY READING - BBC IPLAYER
I bought this book when the BBC adaptation began on 7 June. I do not know the book but the TV is great (a Bridget Jones for our times). I sent my children a link to the ‘Guardian’ review asking if they had read the book; my daughter texted back that she and a friend were en route to Greece for a holiday and that it is her friend’s reading.
This makes me smile because I am sure my daughter and her friend are complete Dolly Alderton, minus the alcohol (but they have done more than enough of that in the past).
