JANE AUSTEN CHARACTERS, ANY MEDIA
WHOA AWESOME BUT HARD. FUCK.
OKAY, I SHOULD PROBABLY MIND MY LANGUAGE BECAUSE IT IS AUSTEN. Ok so this is a top 5 that I think is a top 5 but the order would probably change on any given day.
1) Anne Elliot from Persuasion. I just love her so much. She's so strong, so fucking kind, and so unwavering in her affections. I think the only reason she was persuaded against marrying Captain Wenthworth is because of her affections for her friends and family. Her feelings didn't change, they clashed. Anyway, I think she's the kindest Austen heroine (except maybe Jane Bennett), and I just love her so fiercely. I've loved her in every adaptation, but the latest one is my favorite I think.
2) Mr. Henry Tilney. NGL JJ Feild probably has a lot to do with this. Northanger Abbey has always been one of my favorite Austen novels, and he one of my favorite heroes, but every time I reread it or rewatch it my love grows even larger. He's kind, he's so fucking charming, he's witty, he loves his sister (a lot of Austen heroes love their sisters a lot). I'm pretty sure I would fall in love with him if I met him as well. Also he pretty much disinherits himself, which is AWESOME.
3) Eleanor Dashwood. To be fair, this depends on the adaptation a lot, I think Book Eleanor falls a little lower on the list, but the Eleanor of the 2008 miniseries is just so glorious she moved up a lot lately. I love her seriousness, her inpeccable taste in men, how she swallows her feelings because someone has to care for her family. I just, you can't help but root for her and want her to be happy, BECAUSE SHE DESERVES IT SO MUCH.
4) Catherine Morland, again Northanger Abbey is my favorite (together with Persuasion I guess) Austen book, and Catherine is mostly the reason why. On any other day she'd probably be number one, but I feel old today and she's so young and innocent. I love her for her fantasy which is awesome and so recognizable, I love her because she has the most honest (and actually the most genuine) friendships of all Austen heroines, even if she is taken advantage off. She's also not judgemental, and I think the only one of Austen's heroines who isn't, and I LOVE THAT. She's just kind and friendly and lovely, and I don't understand how NOT EVERYONE FALLS IN LOVE WITH HER. She's definitely the heroine I'd see myself being actual friends with, or you know in a poly triad with Mr. Tilney :p
5) Elizabeth Bennett. Used to be my first love amongst Austen heroines, but I find as I grow older that I have less patient for her judgementallness. At the other hand she's so witty and smart and fierce and not afraid to stand up for herself and those she loves, that I still love her a lot.
