My exams have been cancelled, what do I do?
So a lot of us in the UK are in the same boat now. We’ve worked our arses off for two years, preparing for exams that seemed to loom ever closer, and then suddenly we’ve been confronted with quarantine and a very long summer, and no exams. So what do we do?
1. Keep learning
I don’t know about anyone else, but it feels awful not to be revising- I’d really got into a routine. I really think continuing to learn is going to keep me sane. I’ve always want to learn French, but I was better at German so I dropped it. Self-isolation has given me a great opportunity to try to learn. There’s tons of great resources online- duolingo, memrise, etc- for free! There’s also lectures on interesting topics. Just keep your mind active.
2. links in to the first one but Read
Read the things you enjoy, read the things you want to learn about, read the things you were embarrassed to or you thought you had no time for. Here’s the time, seize it! I’m considering starting a book club on tumblr but I’m not sure if anyone would be interested. (if you are, please message me and we can set something up!)
3. Prepare for what happens next
For me, it’s university no matter what happens with grades. So, I’ve looked up the reading list for the course for my first choice, and I’m trying to get through a lot of them. I also own a ton of books about studying my subject or my specific interests in the subject so I can get a head start for when I’m back to studying.
Just because we’re all sort of sat at home right now doesn’t mean every relationship you have in your life has to deteriorate. Your friends are all in the same boat, people across the country are in the same boat- reach out! It’s not the boredom that’s so bad about this self-isolation, it’s the distance. So reach out to your friends, maybe try hosting Netflix Parties or Skype, just remember you’re not alone, and make sure others know it too.
We don’t know what’s going to happen with our grades, but it’s out of our control. Exams are cancelled but that does mean we don’t have to stress about them anymore, so there are positives! So play animal crossing, read books, watch Netflix, and enjoy the long summer as much as you can. It’s a tough situation but we’ll get through it.
