Isao Tomita knew well. What did he know, you ask? He was familiar with the fact you can combine electronic with many other genres. Jazzanova, for instance, is one of those outfits that mixes the style with jazz. Of course, we already heard a melange of these two idioms under the term chill out. To be honest, downtempo, chill out and nu jazz tend to be used interchangingly despite the fact there are many differences between the mentioned monikers. However, I sort of understand why these are lumped together, since their mellowness tends to evoke a certain calm, which continues to be a characteristic all of these variants play with. Still, I would suggest nu jazz somehow sounds more organic than the other two, you can feel a band playing there.
