Make Valentine’s Day an American Nightmare at Brooklyn Steel on Friday
Around the turn of the millennium, American Nightmare began crafting crowd-pleasing hardcore punk, first making a name for themselves in their local Boston scene and then across a much wider audience, thanks in part to several EPs and a pair of long-players, 2001’s Background Music (stream it here) and 2003’s We’re Down Til We’re Underground (stream it here). Due to a legal battle with another similarly named band, the group shortly became known as Give Up the Ghost. And then a year after their second album’s release, they suddenly called it quits, with the members going on to different projects. Which is where our story would end if they didn’t reunite under their original American Nightmare moniker—founding member Wes Eisold (vocals) with Alex Garcia-Rivera (drums), Brian Masek (guitar), Jim Carroll (guitar) and Josh Holden (bass)—in 2011. A third studio album, American Nightmare (stream it here), arrived on Rise Records, in 2018, and following the release of a two-song EP, Life Support (stream it here), this past December, the legendary hardcore band hit the road, which brings them to Brooklyn Steel on Friday night. Ceremony, a Northern California punk five-piece, open the show.
