Just A Kiss (RP with Luvandia)
Just a Kiss
"So um."
He couldn't even remember when he was last this serious about anything, especially something like this. He'd done it a dozen times before, take a girl out on a spin, bring her to some nice beach. Sex was always an option, but somehow that never crossed his mind with Alex because well..
It was Alex, and he was serious.
"Y-yeah?"
Alex broke off from his trance, turning his attention from the car window to the man seated next to him. He had been staring out the window, seemingly at the passing sceneries that the car drove by - but in actual fact, he had been observing Dylan's reflection on the glass, watching for any hidden reactions he usually wouldn't have seen.
Unsure, he eyed Dylan, waiting patiently for a reply.
"How d'you like it so far? I mean, the scenes and everything. I know sometimes this ain't like, a thing that people are into, and I'm really not being very fluent now, am I?"
Dylan sucked a deep breath. Maybe he did that on purpose. To let Alex know that 'Hey he isn't what everyone thinks he always is, the smooth talking charmer, never serious, commitment issues, blahdidah, and he will prove it to you by saying things entirely out of character'. Maybe Alex was just being Alex and he really did made him act that way, and it was new, as awkward as hell. But somehow, he didn't mind too much. He chuckled, wondering how he'd ever gotten so nervous about this.
In the initial stages, Alex was just, oh well, the cute office fairy to him, but somehow along the way it became more than that- that this guy wasn't going to up and leave if he found out that he wasn't really as nice as he seemed. It had taken a lot of lectures on Jake's (and occasionally the rest of the SJ department) to drill into him the fact that yes, he did have a bit of a problem with handling hearts after the initial surface interest stage.
But Dylan liked challenges.
Well not that he was objectifying his relationship as a challenge or anything, it was just.. Just..
He was a sop. He knew it. He was doing that dreaded 'heart thing' Jake had always warned him that he would end up doing.
Upon hearing Dylan chuckle, the initial hesitation and fear inside of Alex faded away. Oh no, it wasn't that he feared Dylan, it was his boyfriend's tone that frightened him. It was quite obvious that at this point in time, Dylan would never dream of breaking him - and yet, the fear was always there, lurking in the back of his mind, to pounce on special moments and ruin them with irrationality.
But now, he could push away that thought in favour of assuming that Dylan was alright with this. Because he laughed, and that had to mean he was happy, no matter how awkward or sappy or - or anything, really, that Dylan could be. It was just part and parcel, y'know? Discovering every little quirk that made up perfection.
"The scenes?" Alex parroted, eyes drifting back to the window, staring at the reflection of Dylan. He took in everything, the man's hand on the steering wheel, the bits of blue from where his eyes weren't hidden behind trademark sunglasses, his nervous smile, and Alex couldn't help but say, "Perfect."
"Yeah, yeah you are."
He smirked a little, watching Alex splutter and all from the corner of his eye. Every flaw, everything around him and about him felt perfect at the moment, and damn him if he dare ruined it. Even his messy, sandy hair and how it was sticking out in all the wrong- yet right- places, having leant back in the car for a few hours.
It was only expected that Dylan would pull something like that. Suave must have been his middle name. Dylan Suave Stone had a sort of ring to it, after all, it was completely possible. Or perhaps it was only what Alex thought, that everything matched Dylan, that everything fit, simply because he was too far gone to think otherwise.
Yet, despite the fact that it was just so .. Dylan, to be awkward one minute and sending Alex's face colouring in such a deep red the next, he never failed to catch Alex off guard.
"I," Alex took in a deep breath, stuttering and feeling his cheeks heat up further, "I meant the scene-"
"That is a lovely shade of red you got there." He chuckled once more, shaking his head and driving to a stop, climbing out of the car.
"But it is perfect, isn't it?"
Stars were rare near the city, but he'd found this spot, and it'd been somewhat of a secret hideout for him ever since. There was always eyes on him- there was always attention to him, but here he wasn't watched, he didn't charm. He watched and was charmed himself. He never got tired of it- unlike the sealing deals in record timing, charming the skirts of this or that secretary. His little spot in the world, his and only his own, which he never thought he had to, wanted to show to anyone else, until now.
The wind brushed past him gently. He turned to Alex, stunned as ever, stunning as ever, and beckoned him out of the seat.
"The view's better out here, c'mon."
Alex nodded and complied, still staring in wonder around himself. It brought a smile to his lips, to know that such beauty existed, and that Dylan was sharing it with him. Cheeks still tinged pink from the blood that had rushed to his face earlier on, he looked up into the sky, observing in silent awe.
Standing next to Dylan, the two of them alone, being content with everything going on around them. It used to be a silly daydream that Alex had, though he had convinced himself, long ago, that it would never happen. And everytime he'd seen Dylan with a beautiful, well-endowed lady, no doubt working his magic on her, the daydream had slowly but surely diminished into but a miracle. And miracles rarely happened.
The moment at hand, right now, was a miracle.
"It's beautiful," Alex murmured. "How..?" How could anything be so perfect? How was I granted the miracle that I desired so much? How was I so lucky? "How did you find this place?"
"Was just, y'know, driving around. I've... never showed this to anyone before, actually."
He sat on the hood of the car, and Alex followed suit. He tentatively placed his hand on the other's, and gulped. The last thing he wanted now was to rush anything, ruin anything with that usual straight on things he did. His breath hitched for a moment, hoping Alex would say something, do something.
Alex still stared at the sky, comfortably resting on the hood of the car. It was a welcome change from sitting in it for so long, though Dylan had made it bearable.
A light pressure on his hand - Dylan's own hand, and he felt it trembling slightly. His fingers moved, so that their fingers interlaced, like the way couples often did in movies and books. It might have been sappy and cliche, but actually getting to do it was .. nice.
And Alex turned, his attention shifting from the sky to the man beside him, offering Dylan a reassuring smile and gently squeezed his hand. "I appreciate you showing this to me, then. I.. I feel honoured."
"I should, actually. I mean, feel honoured that you're willing to come here and you know um, enjoy the sight, cause well, you mean a lot to me and-"
Dylan rubbed his forehead. He wasn't good at this. He wasn't good at this at all, being sweet, sincere, and just saying the things that he meant.
"I just really wanted to share this with you."
He smiled back- not The Smile (c) Dylan Stone, but a smile which came from something warm and bubbling at the pit of his stomach. Something that he never really had the courage to feel, to surrender to, and he was scared that somehow he'd fail, disappoint Alex, but at the same time, armed with all the determination in the world and more, because he succeeds in things which were difficult, and this was probably more of a challenge than he thought, but couldn't afford to fail. Couldn't afford to hurt him.
"I feel bad now," Alex said, and he returned a smile, albeit toned down and expressing his disappointment with himself. "I don't have anything that special to share with you."
Was it just him, or did Dylan seem to be struggling with his words?
It seemed that it never happened while the other was sweet talking his way into certain shortcuts in life, or charming the pants off some random ladies (and the occasional men, because Dylan believed in the phrase 'best of both worlds'), or doing anything really. It only happened around Alex.
He found it absolutely charming.
"No, no! Don't say that- you've... You've given me enough."
And it was true; Alex had given him so much already. Noticed the things most didn't, saw beyond what he made them, convinced them to believe everyday. He made him see flaws in himself he didn't see before, made him one to correct them. Mostly for himself.
(Subliminally for Alex.)
"...Can I assume that if I kiss you tonight, it won't be your first?"
Alex's voice was low now, a gentle breeze blowing by, making his words seem even more muffled. "I'm not much to like, so I've never kissed anyone before." A bitter smile. "Pathetic, I know."
And it was. He didn't make much of an impression on anyone at all, and Alex certainly didn't think of himself as attractive in the slightest, and there was nothing going for him at all. Of course he would have to accept the fact that he was completely inexperienced at this whole 'romance' thing, of course he would have to admit it to the one person who had the most experience in it, of course he was pathetic.
There was a nagging voice in the back of his mind, berating him for having admitted it out loud. 'You've ruined your chances', it whispered, but Alex paid it no mind, for there was a louder voice, a bigger chance that Dylan wouldn't shun him, but instead would help him through and make him experienced.
Dylan blinked. Well that was unexpected.
"...That's surprising."
He considered what he said for a moment and slapped his forehead over how absolutely unromantic that sounded. There were definitely better ways of telling Alex that he was gorgeous in not the conventional way but in a way that he seemed to have developed himself, which probably couldn't be phrased very wittily or charmingly at the moment.
What on earth was wrong with him, and why was he so nervous about taking someone's first kiss? He certainly didn't take his first that importantly. It was just a physical thing with a lot of mouth and tongue the first time he did it. But there was something so precarious about this- if he didn't kiss him right he would ruin everything, which is impossible because hey, he was Dylan Stone, best kisser within a five-hundred kilometre radius and beyond, but at the same time that was exactly what he was worried about. What if he scared him? What if he went too fast?
And then he came to remember he hadn't even asked for permission yet.
"S..surprising?" Alex repeated, and realised he seemed to be doing a lot of that today. Parroting Dylan's words. But who could blame him, Dylan had a certain way of being unpredictable and catching him off guard every single time. Another quirk he loved.
How terribly embarrassing would it be if they kissed, and Alex didn't know what to do, and he failed at it? Alex shoved away the thought, because if one thought about a bad outcome for too long, it might come true, and instead brought himself back to focus on Dylan, because that was something he was good at - shifting Alex's attention from a dark, negative place to the bright side. Although it couldn't hurt to possibly see how bad things could get, right?
"Dylan?" he called, wondering why the other had gone silent.
Dylan shifted closer to Alex, breath hitching, and squeezing his hand a little bit tighter.
"I'm perfectly fine if you don't want to do this, I don't want to rush things or anything but.."
He looked at Alex, already blushing and keeping so still. Delicate. Something hung in the air. Something that made it hard to breath and all because this felt so real. It felt so real that it was as if he'd never done this before.
Once again, Alex squeezed back, but this time he hoped that the fear he was feeling wasn't shown through that tiny, yet significant action. The rest of him was stiff, though, so he highly doubted that, but it was always alright to try and delude yourself.
"I wouldn't mind if you want it," he said with a small, crooked smile. Please want it, please want it, please don't think I'm pathetic, please-
"So you.. do?"
He ran his hand through Alex's hair, and was closer to him then ever now. It wasn't the soft, glossy locks of the girls he'd macked before, but it wasn't coarse or unpleasant. It felt natural. His eyes were a nice green, not rare but, it was more of the way he looked back at him. Understanding. Knowing. He got lost in him, in Alex, and the way he was.
His hand slid down and held Alex's chin, gulping and asking the unsaid and understood.
Alex gazed at Dylan, hoping the message would be sent across, because it felt like uttering a single word would be a crime, would shatter the romantic atmosphere. Go for it.
A slight tilt of his head in what he hoped was a nod, and then he leaned up, his eyes looking into Dylan's. Blue. Hesitant. Want.
Their first kiss was slow, less messy than expected, loving, but to Alex, it was perfect. Worries, second thoughts and doubts were thrown aside because there was no place for them to taint the moment. Some people say that when you kiss someone, it feels like nothing exists but the both of you. Alex found that it wasn't true. He was well aware of his surroundings, and the stars gazing down on them, but Dylan - Dylan was far more important.
It was gentle, fleeting by Dylan's standards, a reminder of how fragile this was, and how fragile it could be, but the kiss was perfect like that. He woudn't want it any other way. He tangled his fingers into Alex's hair again, and pressed back into the kiss, heart beating steady, slow, yet nervously. His lips were strangely soft for a guy's, and he felt his eyes flutter and his hand gripping on the hood to stable himself.
It was perfect. Just like Dylan, his smile, his confidence, everything Alex admired about him was perfect. This perfection was what once led him to believe he could never have.. have this, a relationship, a first kiss together that sparked the desire to make sure their last kiss was with each other, everything. And yet, looking back on the perfection now, Alex thought that it was something to be proud of. 'Hey, this perfection is mine, isn't that cool?'
A strange kind of sappiness, ever so sweet and wonderful, overtook him as he kissed Dylan, pressing his lips against the other in a sort of calm, blissful state.
He parted, before diving in for another small peck, keeping Alex close to him.
"That was... nice."
Dylan beamed at Alex, a soppily happy smile which again, wasn't practiced and patented, but burst out from nowhere.
"You are going to give me cavities one of these days."
And with the confidence of a thousand Dylans, a once in a lifetime event to see ('Miracle', something whispered in the back of his mind), Alex replied, "Haven't I already?"
Dylan paused for a while, surprised, and taking in the notion that Alex had replied in an adorably mischievous manner, bumped him on his nose, stealing a kiss for the third time.
"Here, have some too."
