Alexis is a cheerful teacher and generally a calming presence, but some students call him a sadist. it might be because of his approach to printing (he always tells them to add pressure to the press even though it’s already so hard to turn that handle does he not know how hard it is? not everyone has the muscle for that)

Kuba was finishing his master's degree in sculpture and installation in the same uni so they’ve seen each other a couple of times on local events & exhibitions and became friends rather quickly

there's always radio playing quietly in the printing place where Alex works, it’s tuned to a french channel with acoustic music; it’s rather nice

There’s food for sale, in each of the three Seas. Clear and easy to get hold of, but Laurence--well, Laurence doesn’t trust that the food here will be uncontaminated, not when he fails to understand the motives of those who brought so many to this strange place.

Thus, he has bought himself instead a couple lengths of rope, and done his best to replicate the snares he has seen Tharkay lay so often, deep in the forests of Tranquility. He is tucked away behind a brush, knows Temeraire lays in wait somewhere nearby as well, the great lummox. 

It’s comforting, though Laurence is not a man to allow himself many comforts, nor to recognize them when he has them. Time passes, and at long last when he checks his traps he finds two rabbits caught up, giving them a sharp blow about the head each to stop their struggling, and tying them together by the paws. Turning, he starts to head back to the city proper.

And of course, he bumps directly into someone else. He drops the rabbits, reaching instead to steady the other, apologies flying to his lips. 

“Oh, damnation, I’m sorry,” he says, shaking his head and bending to pick the rabbits back up. “I only didn’t hear your approach. Are you quite well?”

Meagan hates unknowns. For good reason! She’s never met one that ended well; her first through tenth thoughts were of ascertaining her location, and ferreting out any nasty surprises before they could ferret her out.

Which is how she finds herself disembarking the train in the sea of Crises. 

A Dunwall brat born and raised, she’s most comfortable in the dingiest parts of the world, and at once the gloom of this sea settles around her shoulders like a comforting mantle. She straightens, some of the tension falls from her shoulders, and she flexes her hands as she heads out. 

It feels good to be in motion.

She wanders, mostly, keeping her eyes open for her kind of people. Eventually, she spots someone who seems a good bet--she couldn’t tell you why precisely she thought they would have what she needed, but she’d learned long ago that instinct was nothing to scoff at, not even when it stood without anything to back it up.

She speeds up slightly, and takes the stranger gently by the elbow for a split second to get their attention.

“Hey, stranger--I’m new to the area. Do you know anywhere I could find a shop selling... more exotic wares, let’s say, than a greengrocer?”
