Alex Lilly - 2% Milk (Release Me Records) @alexlillyland #alexlilly #releasemerecords #beck #lorde #thebirdandthebee I am SUPER PUMPED to drop this review on Alex Lilly’s release date for her first solo full length LP titled “2% Milk” today! I’ve been able to review a lot of fantastic music for this site but I’ve probably put more mileage on this pre-release copy than just about anything else that’s crossed my desk. You might recognize Alex from her work as a touring pianist for Sia, The Bird and the Bee, and most recently @Beck but she’s been hard at work writing this album in the background and has put together an artistically staggering and crisply produced album. I’m also a lifelong musician who has spent decades trying to perfect my craft so when I hear a musician as skilled, as talented, and as naturally adept as Alex is with the piano I am pretty instantly hooked. I will be the first to admit that I also get obsessive about specific songs at times, and “Infantile”, a collaboration with Daedalus, on her album is the one I have listened to on repeat for the past week and for the time it’s taken me to craft this review. I could go on and on about it, but frankly she absolutely shreds the piano and if you want a litmus test track for this album, “Infantile” should be it. You’re going to hear some obvious flavors a la St. Vincent due to the atypical and uncommon chord progressions and modes, and for the real music nerds, you’ll also hear a generous heaping of less obvious bands like Pattern is Movement in her ability to craft a slowly inflating baroque, chamber pop atmosphere that rises like a balloon but never actually pops. It’s quirky, its beautiful, and it is a breath of fresh air in a scene currently overcrowded by MacBook trap beats, inexcusable made-for-the-Super Bowl Halftime Show “rock”, and other manufactured pop garbage. This is thoughtful and engaging stuff, and I don’t throw this kind of prose around for most pop music. More similar harassment posters are found outside of a workplace where one of the people Alex has been targeting occasionally works. Dozens are also found pasted up in the Mississippi neighborhood, and comrades find at least two stacks of twenty or more copies which have been haphazardly deposited in the grass at different places.

Upon returning from a lunch break, one of the people being consistently targeted by Alex Lilly’s recent campaigns of stalking & harassment finds posters pasted up outside of the front door of a workplace where they are working an on-call substitute shift. This person decides to take the posters down, is asked about it by sympathetic co-workers, and shares details of Alex’s recent activities with them.  Later, after this person finishes an 8 hour shift, they discover that the back tire of their bike (which had been parked approximately 8 feet from where the posters were placed) has been punctured and is entirely flat. Naturally, this could be merely a striking coincidence.

-- Perhaps it’s worth reiterating at this point that, unlike the people he has been targeting, Alex draws his income from the arbitrary rent he extracts from tenants and is therefore not subject to hourly waged labor.  He apparently makes use of the time he has thus emancipated to conduct these extensive & obnoxious campaigns of abusive stalking & harassment.

new posters are found which make direct reference to a person who has offered support to the woman Alex Lilly was seen physically threatening on 7/26/2014 and accuse them of using “fraud”.

Shortly after, dozens more posters begin to appear which include many references also to the woman Alex Lilly was seen physically threatening on 7/26/2014 as well as on May Day 2015.

Many of the posters also make reference to incidents wherein fraudulent letters were allegedly sent to the property manager of the building where Alex acts as de facto “landlord”, as well as calls made to the city to report that people are illegally living in the building.  No one with whom we have spoken in the autonomous support networks or among those targeted by Alex’s activities has any idea who may have taken these actions, or whether they, in fact, occurred at all.  Many people have witnessed Alex’s abusive behaviors, and it seems unlikely that the research required for such a tactic would be very difficult.  It is not a tactic used or endorsed by anyone in the autonomous support networks.

On the final day of moving out, the tenant who was evicted for interrupting Alex in the act of publicly threatening a woman on July 26, 2014 receives a handwritten letter from Alex which, among other things, vows “I WILL AVOID YOU AND [woman he was seen physically threatening on 7/26/2014] AT ALL COSTS.”
