Networker: Typing into the abyss
While I did enjoy the content of the blog, Mehan’s Kitchen , what I didn’t enjoy was the plain design, the run-of-the-mill formatting, and the obvious page glitches. In addition, while the author herself did an excellent job made sure to update the blog regularly, I find that the content lacked a personal connection it so craved.
While Small World may be an older relic amongst the current menagerie of information, I found that the author truly took the time to connect with the audience, and that the content--a synthesis of text, image, and sound--fit perfectly into the “theme” of the day.
Finally, I found a blog that spends a lot of time discussing other blogs. Basically, the website is a compliation of the “43 greatest examples of a wordpress website” and from it, I learned that you can pretty much do anything. There were resumes, small-business pages, mom’s groups, local charity pages, etc. All for free. All with the touch of a hat.
I feel like I visited a diverse cast of blogs, moreover, I feel a bit jaded after doing so. I learned from this that with all the vast quantities of information, is easy to get lost, and even easier to be forgotten. Seeing so many personal blogs in one place, I wonder how many of them have an actual audience--I wonder just how much of this “blogging” is us typing into the void, spewing throughts we hope to have praised, images we hoped to have shared, audiences we hope to have care.
