She had hoped to leave Alice’s desk before she arrived ,   but it didn’t really matter anyway.   She knew the woman had had it tough during the few chances they had at small talk.   They hadn’t spoken since the incident but Doe was aware of how much it affected Alice.   Doe wasn’t sure what she would do if she lost Mary   ( @macmary​ )   and that’s the comparison it would have been.   After buying a few bars of Cadbury chocolate   ( she still hadn’t found a wizarding world equivalent in her mind )   and a few sweets from a shop in Diagon Alley ,   Doe had carefully wrapped them and had intended to leave them as a surprise without a note.   A blush rose to her cheeks ,   and she held out the small package towards Alice.   “I was just gonna leave them but ,   well ,   since you’re here...it’s just a little something.”

You believe in me, and that’s a lot more than most. I hope this reflects that. Running late with these as usual, but at least I’m typically on time to work.

Doe would have found embarrassment in coming across too drunk to Alice. She wasn’t sure whether it was an attempted sign of respect or not but offered the female a small smile. After all she was only where she was because of Alice, and herself of course, but you had to know people to get to places, and Doe didn’t have many people. Not that she had many more places to get to.

“Alice, your dress. It’s simply stunning. I suppose ghastly is more appropriate but that doesn’t sound like a compliment.”
