Details for Alice Wong's Celebration of Life - March 25, 2026

Dear Disabled Comrades and our Allies,

Many of you have heard about Alice Wong or have heard about her work. (One of the most impactful being Crips for eSims for Gaza which is still continuing its work today. Or you may have heard of one of her books, like Disability Visibility.)

In November 2025, Alice died after living a fulfilling life that she was told she could never have, but I wish she was still here with us.

Alice was in short, a disabled fucking badass, and I wanted to share the info for her celebration of life being hosted on Wednesday, March 25.

So, today was Alice Wong's celebration of life. Alice Wong was a disabled Asian-American disability justice activist who died November 14, 2025 at the age of 51. I did not know her personally or have any significant interaction with her, but her work changed me. I spent three hours of today attending it and a virtual reception afterward, and one thing the "toolkit" that was shared with the celebration of life details suggested people could do to honor Alice is to share stories.

The evening Alice's death was shared with me (the day after she died), in the hours before I found out, I was considering jokingly writing an essay to fulfill a joke "assignment" a Twitch streamer I follow asked people to do describing what we did while she was gone, and I was watching Desert Bus for Hope, a charity livestream raising money for Child's Play.

These two things coalesced into me writing what started as a joke essay but turned into something else more genuine and heartfelt and which touched on Alice's death as it pertained to everything else I was doing at the time (namely, productivity, Desert Bus for Hope, Beyblade, and the meaning of love--yes, that makes more sense in context). As such I felt like I should share it beyond the two Discord channels I shared it in late last year soon after I wrote it, as--in a way--it's sort of the story of me working through my feelings regarding her death.

I titled it, "If You Love Something, Let It Rip: An Introspective". (The streamer I wrote it for is not a doctor. That part was included as an attempt at humor.) It's a fairly quick read, not any longer than one of my fanfic chapters. I'd paste the text of it here under a cut, but the formatting is part of the experience for this one, I think.
