Alien x pet reader - Time and new years
(wanted to make this for myself to get an idea of times)
Reader lay down on the counter, stretching themselves out, "So I got a question."
“Get off the table,” Melon replied without so much as a glance
“No,” they insisted, propping themselves up on their elbows with a lazy grin. “So my question is what about holidays? Do you have any space-themed ones?”
He raised a brow at that. “How am I supposed to know what counts as space holidays?” He leaned back in ageist the skin, crossing one leg over the other. “I mean, how would I know if you celebrate the same ones?”
“Well, yeah,” the Reader admitted, “but I still want to know. Like, how do you mark the passage of time? Like, how do you even count years?”
“By the stars,” he replied, turning his head toward the window.
Reader followed his gaze, peering out into the vastness of space. "You mean like the way people follow directions by the location of the stars?"
“No, I mean the life of a star,” he said, smirking at them with teasing eyes. “Come on, you’re a smart little astronaut. You know that stars can die, right?”
Reader rolled their eyes. “Sure, but stars live for billions of years! There could be countless stars exploding every second.”
“True, but you humans have seconds, minutes, hours… I could go on,” he said smugly. “It’s all a bit strange to me because I’ve always lived according to our own time.” He leaned forward slightly. “If you really want to know, we have specific stars we classify as marking 'our year.' We usually choose one that’s nearing its end, and when it’s about to go out, our entire species gathers to watch.”
As he spoke, his eyes softened, and a warm smile spread across his face. It was funny how his mood always changed when he talked about a topic he liked.
“But not all stars are the same, right? How would anyone really know?” Reader pressed
“Humans have leap years, don't they?” Melon responded. It was like he had an answer ready for every question.
“I guess we do,” Readers their brow furrowed in thought. “Does that mean I haven’t been here a year yet?” They swung their legs off the counter.
“It’s getting close,” Melon replied. “I won’t give too much away, but Gar is really looking forward to it…now get off the damn counter," he glared at them,
he picked them up, "what I thought we were bonding!" reader squirmed
"I don't 'bond' with humans." he snarled, placing them onto the floor.
"Whatever, loser," reader stuck their tongue out at him
