Turbo Review: Alien Crush
While, I am waiting on Air Zonk to arrive (problems with the first one I bought), I must skip over it and talk about the next game in line for review.
Alien Crush is a pinball game that takes the concept of video pinball and turns it on its head. It's a fast paced, and really cool table, and it has two screens. The table itself is a bizarre concept; it features sci fi elements with aliens, odd looking bugs, a brain, and a weird skull thing that has tentacles when it lights up all the way.
The gameplay is rather simple, and as with any pinball game, meeting certain conditions will grant access to missions. The missions in Alien crush are pretty much similar. Usually, they'll feature something that must destroyed, such as a centipede looking bug, or switches that must be activated. At the menu, there is an option for a low or fast speed. Slow gives the player time to study the table and learn shots, but isn't nearly as fun as fast.
For 1989, Graphics on this game are incredible. There are very detailed sprites, and ball physics are pretty well done considering most video pinball games at that time were pretty bad about that. The music is incredible, and there is an option on the menu to choose the soundtrack. I prefer Lunar Eclipse, but to each his own.
There really isn't much else to say about Alien Crush, other than it's a fun game, and a good time waster. High scores can't be saved, so that's a bit of a bummer, but it doesn't ruin the game.
