It's interesting how many of the directors only choose films that were made before they started making films themselves. A few exceptions, but not very many give credit to their own contemporaries on these lists. Lists from: Alison Anders, Wes Anderson, Alec Baldwin, James Franco, Sonic Youth, D.A. Pennebaker, Diablo Cody, Paul Morrissey, Steve Buscemi, and more. It's a little odd, though, that in 2011 a list like this compiles virtually no lists from black or asian artists.
