One of my favourite games (story wise.. not play style wise) is Ico. For it's style in 2001, it shocked me. It's what brought me in to adoring RPGs. The story was delightful. There was something about it that had you on the edge of your seat. Yet, mentioning the play style, I hated. Holding your companions hand to help her run around... And then having to let her hand go to fight and her being taken just.. Well, you were on the edge of your seat with a few extra words not for one of a young age.
Ah, Ico. I own it and I’ve played some of it, though puzzle-platformers are admittedly not my first choice of genre, I did very much have an interest in the story from the beginning. I didn’t play through it much.
The companion game along with Ico though, also high-rated, is Shadow of the Colossus, and that I have played. I have a bad habit unfortunately of not finishing games; I’ll play to the near end and then suddenly I get invested in something else, or I take a break, or I forget… something happens at some point just near the end and I never quite finish the game. xD I do have games I’ve finished and beaten of course, but less in comparison to those I’ve almost beaten. Shadow of the Colossus is one of them, I’m at the last Colossus, and I haven’t played the game in like two years. Sigh.
