In response to the anon on July 6th who was saying Israel has done nothing for Jews in the diaspora, I’m sorry but that isn’t true.
I understand their frustration of being told to “just make Aliyah” when they vent about antisemitism. Because why do we have to drop everything and move somewhere else??? I’m an American, America is my home and my family has been here for generations. So I do agree that I don’t like the idea of just telling everyone to move to Israel, because diaspora communities are very important. Jews in the diaspora have a connection Israel, but we also have a connection to the land we were born and raised in. I think it’s really unfair that we’re expected to just leave.
So I do understand their frustration, and i think it makes sense to critique that mindset. But that being said, the Jews need Israel. The idea that there is a country I know I can go to if shit hits the fan is really comforting to me. A lot of American Jews don’t think something like the Holocaust could happen again. But Jews in Germany didn’t think they’d get slaughtered either. You never know.
But other stuff they said was ignorant. Cause imagine if there hadn’t been a Jewish state established right after the Holocaust. Like what would have happened to our people? Imagining that freaks me out, honestly.
Also there were American Jews kidnapped by Hamas and Israel did everything they could to get them out, meanwhile America barely did anything. So yes, Israel has helped Jews in the diaspora. And it’s really unfair to say that you’ve heard a lot of Israelis are bigoted. Cause that rlly doesn’t seem like you’re speaking from personal experience. I’ve been to Israel and Israelis are really amazing people. So that’s really unfair.
So yeah, living in the diaspora sucks because of antisemitism, and I think the larger Jewish community should offer us more options than making Aliyah. But Israel is important, and I hope that person is able to go one day because it’s a really beautiful experience to go as a Jewish person. The frustration they’re feeling is very valid, but I don’t think it’s right to direct that anger towards half of the Jewish population.
