WE ASKED 10 OF OUR FAVORITE DESIGNERS: What are the most important features of a design product?
What are the most important aspects of a design product? Does form follow function? Is there a meaning behind each design product?
We asked 10 designers from Designeros.com:
Successful design must be innovative and clever. These two features should combine aesthetic quality of the product, which in itself can attract customers almost at the first sight. I think there’s enough imitations and copies of already existing products. Our planet is overloaded with a large number of unnecessary items. Therefore, I prefer innovative design, which is sophisticated and functional. The artistic aspect should then be the aesthetic pleasure for the eye and a noble partner of ordinary moments. - Ondrej Belica, studio Gimonfu.
I think that really great design product should make its owner’s life easier or more pleasant. It should be simple, beautiful, precisely processed and functional. It should have added value, for example to be environmentally friendly. - Pavla Zimmermannova, TEABAG
The product itself should bring the customer a new kind of experience and satisfaction. That is what we always keep in mind when we design, manufacture and market the product. It is about the maximum quality and unique design - from material all the way to packaging. All of the mentioned above creates high added value. - Lukas Balik & David Hartl, Delast Design
I think interesting design and high quality that catches the eye of the consumer are the most important features of a design product. Keeping up with current trends and not being afraid to experiment and learn new things really pays off. This, hand in hand with really good marketing strategy, is the foundation of success. - Lucie Vostalova, NALEJTO
Successful product should be timeless and targeted to a well-defined group of customers. It should have a high practical value and be supported by proper marketing strategy. Also, I think its author needs a bit of luck. - mju., Lucie Rezbova
Main features of a good design are simplicity, wit and attractiveness, in other words - sexiness. Simplicity should lie in its usage, wit in surprising functionality and attractiveness in its aesthetics and uniqueness. - Milos Nemec, NEMEC DESIGN
Successful product should be fully functional and precisely crafted in the first place, because customer seeks quality and reliability. It should be attractive not only because of its appearance. Function, wit, meaning or story should drive the customer’s attention as well. The goal is to make the consumer feel like the product was designed specifically for them. Good product should be designed for real people and their needs, dreams and wishes. Not for some abstract entity. Good product should be affordable and accessible for a wide range of customers. - SarkaS design, Sarka Schmelzerova
Product should be easy to describe and customer friendly. It should bring either technical or aesthetic progress. Ideally, the combination of both of these two qualities. It is also very important for the product to be memorable and to be recognizable by the author’s signature style. - Jiri Chocholousek, Chocholousek Studio
Good product has its own story. As a customer, I should be able to recognize why and by whom it was designed. Product should communicate the signature style of the designer or studio. As a designer, I always keep in mind that the product should bring positive emotions whether it is childhood memories or simply a good feeling. I think successful product is one that can win the customer by evoking emotions in them. Undoubtedly it has to be simple, well formed and precisely crafted. - Alzbeta Zimmerova, ALIZI
