While I’m not as big of AH/RT fan as I once was, the news about Ryan Haywood hits deep and my current feelings run similar to what I said here when Cryaotic got ‘exposed’ earlier this year. Update- It’s been confirmed that he cheated on his wife with fans, young/minors and did a lot of manipulative shady shit in the process. He also used his platform/power to take advantage of people. It’s good that he left the platform, even if it hurts for now.

Right now, I just want to reach out to anyone scrolling through the tag who really liked Ryan, maybe made gifsets of him, drew fanart or you know, found him to be their favorite AH member, may be even just really liked/trusted him. This is a very difficult situation and I want you to know that this is not your weight to bear. It is not your fault for not knowing about any of this, okay? Hindsight is everything, and as much as I wish parasocial relationships were easy to dismiss, they do form when you spend a lot of time consuming content involving real life people (even if they are playing a online persona of sorts).

I understand from personal experience how a lot of guilt and shame can conjure up when news like this about someone we were a fan of comes up but it’s on them and their responsibility, not ours as viewers of content he happened to be in. We as viewers had no way of knowing or seeing this behaviour he acted out on behind the scenes. We naturally want to see the best in people, especially those that paint themselves the way Ryan did in front of an audience. The best thing to do is to acknowledge what he did was wrong, take time and allow yourself to grieve and do whatever you can to move forward when you’re ready to.

You are allowed to react to a sense of trust being broken and grief for however long you need, where ever (online/irl) you need but please don’t take it out on yourself. Be safe and kind to people who have been hurt by this news - that includes you.
