Advent Calendar day 24 2007-2024

The mythical All-character. I try to add one representative of every individual series I've made through the years (since childhood). 30+ series (some are spin-offs), and a few have 2 reps. After 2022, I hit a critical mass and pared it back severely, but even now, I still have to find a way to get about 26 characters onto one page (that's counting newcomer Doc this year). Also, I still never finished making the little ornament Milagros for 2016, so I need to finish those later; that's why I have sketches and cut outs for that day. Also 2017 I included a photo cuz the foil wasn't showing up.

This year's won't be up til after the holiday, but please look forward to it!

Speaking of changes, these were done a month apart and I'm still struggling with heights XD;;;; Captain's hair...def got better, I need to thiccen Techie a lil more, gotta get Trickster's, Sniper's and Gunslinger's heights sorted better (Gunslinger's supposed to be 6'4" and the other 2 are around 6'1") but I still haven't decided if PK and Doc have a height gap? Should PK be shorter? Do people like extreme height gaps in their BL? Same height? And doing casual outfits for each of the 8 that compliment what I think their styles are is...definitely a challenge since my forte of drawing is cute young girls and twinks XD;;;; Help. (I say this, fully knowing I'm committing to my last Outfit August to Doc).

In the top pic, order from left to right, top to bottom: Captain, Trickster, PK, Dynamite, Technician, Sniper, Doctor, Gunslinger. Order in the second is Captain, Dynamite, Trickster, Sniper, Technician, Gunslinger, Doctor and PK.

Couple things: PK can't drink anymore cuz his alcohol tolerance tanked after taking the immortality serum so he's gotta stick to water XD I usually don't think of Doc drinking, but I figured once in awhile he'll do something with lots of ice. Where Dyna got their boba in a bar, I'll never know, but Trickster looking skeptically at his wine is too perfect.

So about the white hair. Anyone who took Doc’s immortality formula ends up not only with enhanced abilities and senses, but it ends up turning some or all of their hair white. It happened with Surgeon’s formula, but Doc’s only seemed to change the Anything Store’s mercs partially (excluding Dynamite’s whose hair turned entirely white for spoiler reasons). Cap’s and Techie’s turned white on the sides (PK too but only in a crescent shape on one side), Trickster’s and Gunslinger’s turned white on top, and Sniper’s turned white on the bottom layer (as his dosage was a hybrid; check episode one on tumblr, wattpad and tapas).

Why? Its a convoluted back-tying to an under developed story called The Silver Club, whose story concerned extraordinary characters that all have white hair. We Once Had Names technically is a prequel in the same universe but ive decided Silver Club to be a smaller sequel for a distant future.

And to be honest, it’s mostly because the first character i created, Doc, has white hair. Literally thats like 80% of the reason XD.

Dec. 24 That's What Christmas Means to Me, My Love

Well, the last days are rarely ever finished on time, and most of the time its because of family functions, but with all the business this year, my ambitious project for the 10th anniversary was more labor intensive than previous years.  I decided to go with the idea of representing my entire series catalog as milagro, the mexican/latin american votive tradition of ornaments that are religious folk charms made as offerings.  Milagro trees are something I've seen in my relatives' homes before and thought making a tree of milagro that represented different series would be an ambitious project.  I wanted to pay a little tribute to both my own heritage and the things that make me whole, which are the creative process of expressing myself; not that I see myself as a deity but creation itself is a divine entity.  A lot of what I make represents things I feel are important, like expressions of love, music, or ideals of human relations and the human condition.  Each series I own I broke down to be a symbol that would be easy to hand cut with scissors or an exacto knife, and as such, I chose things that were good icons.  For example, Ecstacy Education--a series about teachers who might have been corrupt of seemed inadequate to teach become a faculty team that succeeds beyond all odds--is represented by a suitcase with an apple symbol to represent the idea of illicit materials contained in the cases that typified each teacher (in the series, they're called "polished apples" XD).  Pot Sticker has 2 crosses that appear on the main character's cheeks.  Distance's series incorporates a clock and open space to embody time and space; the Caller spinoff contains the symbol for the Callers.  E.Q. uses the series logo of the treblebass clef.  Some milagro will have a hot glue pattern, like Psychic Cafe or Anni & Kawaii, so that they create a raised surface; this will be for the final step of covering each milagro with a silver surface to give dimension.  A more detailed description will appear when all the milagro  are completed.

This year had a few pitfalls but I'm immensley proud of the work and the ideas done this year.  A lot of colleges went into this one because I really do enjoy them, and miss doing them.  This calendar has been the most drawing I have done in the past year; I realized I really missed it.  Sometimes we can get too busy to do the things we love but once we get going, we realize we can't live without it.  I hope you all enjoyed this year's calendar.  I can't wait to make it to the 15 year mark.

So in honor of the 5 year E.Q. anniversary, I decided to try a season/album full version of an all-character.  It took way longer than I thought it would (couple days in fact), just to count who had shown up in Album 1, plus the Side B episodes who actually showed up during that timespan (characters like Corvin, Orlock, and Trancer 8392), and even I stopped counting how many people made the cut, even with a list (that changed as I went @_@) but its quite possibly twice the amount of an advent calendar all-character.  Yeah.

Its something I’ve noted as I went through the series’ first season that I didn’t really describe many of the characters so some of the depictions might be rather surprising.  In fact, many of them had to be created on the spot.  @_@  I learnt from the experiences and vow to be a better descriptor in-story.  Aside from those who have died--no that’s not a crack at Oliver @_@ fuck, it still hurts to read that part of Sound Tower--some of those shown will have larger roles or returning roles as we go.  Which means I’ll have to put them into another All-Character @_@.  In any case, while the month is over, I still do plan on releasing a few more things for the E.Q. anniversary year.

2015 Advent Calendar Day 24: The Wonderland of the Mind ROUGH (left)

This one was a tough one to map out and then put everyone in.  @_@  I'm just under 30 different individual series, from mainline series to their spin offs (like Creepy & Crawly, which has about 5 spin-offs or sister series running concurrent to it), adding only one this year, which I'm tentatively calling Forest Life, which is represented by Ichi, whom has appeared once on the Mellow-MACHine album Chiaroscuro.  

Believe me…it was a challenge to not only put each representative in, but this year, being the idiot I was, wanted even paired representatives to appear together, so Bass and Treble (E.Q.) appear together, as well as Jessica and Toby (Creepy & Crawly: Next), the Senior Winchester Twins (Distance: Golden 7), California and Ohio (The Union), Anni and Kawaii, Vicci & Kymi and even Milo and Doll (Milo's Room), so there's well over 30 characters packed into my little head, which makes it an accurate representation of the universes I juggle every day.  It probably will take over an hour to ink and color, but then, the last pictures are always a character heavy day (which is why they're called All-Characters).

Very rarely are these done day of…maybe one year XD.  Recently, any characters that have 2 main characters, I alternate the people.

Day 24: Neighborhood Ornaments rough

  This year was so busy, what with the late cookies, lots of work, and the amazing 12 Tracks project from Decon, its was stressful, but I can't deny it made for some great pics this year.  A good strong year, which is always intimidating the following year.  @_@

This year I decided on christmas ornaments.  This year we only added one new series, Our Ladies of War, but we're just 2 shy of 30 series represented (twin character series this year showcased the other, so California, Toby, Ridley, and Treble this year when Ohio, Jessica, Riley, and Bass appeared last year).  Its got a lot to be done, but a good rest sounds nice too right now.
