The All-Maudra Trials (Personal TDC Headcanon)
In Age of Resistance, Maudra Fara challenges Seladon to Trial by Air for the Living Crown, which based on the other Maudras’ reactions is the worst/most dangerous challenge, but what other challenges might have existed before the Skeksis banned them altogether and appointed the role of All-Maudra to only the Vapra?
There would have been other options for Maudras who couldn’t fly (damaged/deformed wings, wings not built for aerial flight like the Drenchen, or no wings at all). The major rule for the Trials was that a Maudra couldn’t pick anything her opponent was physically incapable of.
For example, a Vapran Maudra couldn’t pick Trial by Air if her opponent was Drenchen or didn’t have wings etc.
Also, no killing of opponents; accidental deaths may have occasionally occured, but no Trial existed where the challenge was a fight to the death. Therefore, duels with swords or other weapons were not an option. Even in their early civilizations, Gelfling were against murder of any kind.
The Challenges:
Trial by Air
Flight race through course of challenger’s choice
Courses included the Claw Mountains, Endless Forest, Swamp of Sog, Crystal Desert, Caves of Grot, and select areas of the Sifan Coast
The Spriton Plains were not included because they’re literally just grass and don’t pose much of a challenge
The Caves of Grot were limited to two Grottan opponents or two non-Grottans so that a Grottan Maudra couldn’t have the unfair advantage of her superior eyesight in the dark
The Sifan Coast was limited to extremely rocky/stormy areas that actually posed a challenge
Trial by Water
Swimming race in the Swamp of Sog, Sifan Coast, or Black River
Similar to rules in Trial by Air, this Trial was limited to two Drenchen opponents or two non-Drenchens. A Drenchen Maudra couldn’t challenge a non-Drenchen to Trial by Water because they would have the obvious unfair advantage with their finn-like wings and gills.
Trial by Foot
Running/parkour race through the Endless Forest or Swamp of Sog
Use of wings prohibited (wings were lightly restrained to prevent cheating and just opening on instinct)
Trial by Sport
A series of challenges including bola/spear/axe throwing, archery etc., whoever won the most got the Crown
Took place in Sami Thicket
Use of wings prohibited because they were not considered necessary for the sports in question
Trial by Brawl
Hand-to-hand combat. I’m talking full-on wrestling, boxing, just all-out messy beat-the-shit-out-of-each-other fights
Use of wings was allowed only if both opponents had fully functional wings (didn’t matter the clan, as long as both had them it was fair game)

I think about the All-Maudra Trials a lot because we get next to no info on them. How often were challenges initiated? Which clan had the Crown most often? The concept of Maudras fighting one another in often dangerous circumstances intrigues me.
