Lovely cool run with the girls
Jackson Day Race
Things have been pretty hectic around the holidays. I visited my family in the Czech Republic. Weather was unfortunately non-Christmas like with temperatures well above freezing and all the snow melting in front of our eyes. I was bummed that I didn’t get to go cross-country skiing with my sister, since we make a perfect team. Since there was no snow, I at least got run some with her, which I really enjoyed. Since being back, I’ve been running pretty consistently, but alone on all my runs, but one. Today, I ran the Jackson Day race and to sum it up, it was a disaster. I had hoped to run it as a solid tempo run, but got cramps in my calves within the first two miles. I just felt awful both physically and mentally. There is nothing that I can do about it now, and as terrible as it was, I don’t regret getting out there on such a beautiful morning. I certainly won’t let this discourage me. This was definitely a reminder that I do need to get back to some maintenance at All-American Chiropractic. They keep me in one piece!
It’s really happening
Getting my Indian visa approved makes my Nepal trip just that much more real. I was really stressed about getting my visa, particularly since I already purchased a ticket and since you can't ever assume anything. I submitted my application extra neatly and I guess in return, my visa was approved by the Indian Consulate in about 12 hours. I should point out that their website mentioned I should plan for minimum of 21 working days. What a relief! I can now start focusing on gathering all of the necessary things and finally start getting really excited. My running has been solid, but I have definitely been little achy this week. Last Friday was the first regular treatment with Dr. Dichiara at All American Chiro. I will be seeing him regularly twice a week until my trip to hopefully prevent any of the little aches from becoming actual injuries. Fingers crossed!
Nonstop
This past week just flew by thanks to my hectic schedule. My hamstring has been still achy and so I decided to take advantage of my free “birthday session” with Dr. D. at All American Medical & Chiropractic. Dr. D. has helped me in the past; most significantly thanks to him I was able to finish my first and only half-marathon of my career. I need to really make it a point to include some preventative therapy into my routine in hopes that I stay injury-free. On Tuesday I flew into SF for my work meeting. I have been planning on running across the Golden Gate Bridge for a couple of months. When I finally got to the hotel, the last thing I felt like doing was going running. I am very proud to say that I decided that I couldn’t get anything in the way of me completing it. Weather was not as great as I had hoped for, but that’s to be expected in San Francisco. I started my run at the Embarcadero Bart station and ran along the Embarcadero towards the Golden Gate Bridge. I made it a point to stop at the Patagonia store just couple blocks from the Fisherman’s Wharf to once again check out some potential gear for my Nepal trip. I went on and the whole way, there was plenty to see and miles just went by quickly. Before I knew it I was at the bridge. Running across the bridge was actually lot less pleasant than I had hoped for. The combination of heavy car traffic right next to the pedestrian/bike section, very windy and cool weather and the fact that I don’t love heights resulted in a very brisk pace in my attempt to make it to the other side as quickly as possible. As planned, I then went on and continued my run to the picturesque town of Sausalito. After a quick stop for food I got on the ferry and rode back to SF. I was pleasantly tired and my legs have been definitely feeling sore since they don’t get to see much hill action in NOLA. After taking a red-eye back, I was in town for a day (my birthday, yay!) before taking off again. Off to my home, Czech Republic, that is!
