#HAPPYBLACKHISTORYMONTH!Celebrating a culture that currently is & has been attacked, loved, feared, respected, copied, valued, stolen, mocked, misinterpreted, threatened, powerful, determined, wise, ancient, & integral to the most essential values we ALL cherish like education, creativity, love, & independence. A happy reminder: culture is always more than a single month or perspective of struggle, slavery & colonialism. Let's recall BCE times & appreciate the FEMALE rulers that we know didn't get credit & history class time. I think we all would feel the world differently if we learned more of these things as youth. All of us, not just African Americans, but all of US. ✌🏿🌎✌🏿 "According to a legend recorded by a writer in 332 BC, Alexander the Great headed south of Egypt planning to conquer the kingdoms in the region of Nubia, or Kush. His plans were thwarted, however, by the warrior queen Candace of Meroe. “She would not let him enter Ethiopia and warned him not to despise them because they were black for, ‘We are whiter and brighter in our souls than the rest of you.'” Legend has it that Alexander could not entertain even the possibilty of having his world fame & unbroken chain of victories marred by risking a defeat, at last, by a woman. He halted his armies at the borders of Ethiopia & did not invade to meet the waiting black armies with their Queen in personal command. Candace was not really an individual queen; the word was a spelling of the word kentake, which means “queen mother,” and all queens bore this title. The kentakes/kendake held just as much, if not more, power than the kings; they were the ones who chose the king. They were rulers in their own right, and instead of being beholden to the king, they ruled alongside him." *Fun Impactful Fact: the reliefs/depictions at the time of these warrior queen mothers had them being larger, jeweled women...with battle scars on their faces. A sign of beauty implied in Central Africa. (Talk about ancient #BodyPositive outlooks...!) Let's embrace our true GLOBAL history! #BlackHistoryMonth Part1 #WeWereNotOnlySlaves #WeWereKingsAndQueensAndNormalPeopleToo #LoveYourself #AllCultures #WorldPeace #Yes
