Loki and Skyla - The Children of Church and Syn
The moon was full, the lights bright in the house on the hill. The wind blew, rustling the dry grass and casting dust into the air. It swirled in the breeze and the flag flapped on its pole. Seemingly on cue, the flag cracked and Lily screamed.
“Just hang on baby!” Kilroy yelled over the angry screams of his wife. Lily’s eyes burned with golden light as she howled again. As Kilroy opened his mouth to say something, her eyes snapped onto him.
“SHUT THE ACTUAL FUCK UP!” She snarled at him “YOU DID THIS YOU ASSHOLE!” “Well… yes?” He responded.
“WHAT DID I FUCKING SAY?” She yelled, then she fell back screaming again. As she fell back, Kilroy wiped sweat and spittle from his face.
The front door swung open and down the hall came charging a doctor neither of them recognized. Kilroy breathed a huge sigh of relief and tried to rush out of the room, but felt his hand trapped in a death grip. He looked over and saw the burning gold, almost turning molton as a voice that he had heard only once spoke to him from Lily’s mouth.
“You will be by her side or you will not see your children again.”
***
The calm in the room was almost unsettling. The soft beating of Lily’s heart and the slow rise and fall of her chest while she slept a complete 180 from her screams of pain and anger only an hour before.
Sitting in the corner of the room, Kilroy held his newborns. Swaddled in soft blankets of white and crimson. He hummed softly to the sleeping forms. An old song, something he’d heard as a boy. He felt his heart soft, his mind a mush of love and desire to make certain the life of his kids was better than his own.
“Ye best be ready to work for it then.” Spoke the voice again. Kilroy looked over to Lily’s form. Her eyes still closed, but her mouth moved.
“Ragnar, let my family sleep.” Kilroy pleaded. “They’ve been through enough tonight.
“Aye, they have. But I warn ye new. They’ll be hell to pay should ye abandon ‘em. You’re tied to the lad and lass. As is Lillith. But ye’ll be free o’ the curse Azrael left ye. Teach ‘em to find their own wee. And ye’ll be a good father Kilroy. Lilith was always destined to carry the children of a demon, but who their father was meant te be, unclear.” Kilroy looked at his children’s soft faces, and sighed.
“They’re my kids. And they’ll be raised to be True Sinister Sons.”
“No, they’ll be raised to be people. Good people. But ye can’t dictate their path.” Kilroy looked at Lily.
“But-”
“Ye’ll be alright lad. Just raise ‘em right and they’ll be good. Just like you.”
The room quieted then. Kilroy looked back at his kids and gently carried them to the cradles in the room. He then walked over to his woman. His ol’ lady looked so peaceful. He kissed her neck and let himself start to doze off.
Had he been awake, he’d have seen the eyes of Skyla and Loki flash. One golden. One red.
