Being with Izuku and his friends is an odd experience for Shouto. He’s been sheltered his entire life, implicitly forbidden from such frivolous things as friendship, and so to see people just laughing and joking around like it’s no big deal at all... to say the least, it gives him whiplash.
He’s more quiet than he’d like to be, just sitting and listening to them as he tries not to become overwhelmed. There doesn’t even seem to be any room for him to just jump in.
As it turns out, the problem isn’t a lack of space, but a lack of social skills. He fidgets quietly, rocking gently back and forth and looking around. The weather is a simple, easy conversation topic. Midoriya is a simple kind of boy, he’ll probably appreciate that. When his words are met with approval and happiness, he manages a tiny smile. He’s doing well.
“I like the rain too. Especially when it storms.” Again, he glances up at the sky. “I don’t think it will, though. I don’t mind staying out here for a bit longer. It’s nice, and we’ll probably stay dry under here.”
