          there’s only so much a man can take, and after a day like today, tripp is honestly surprised that he’s even still standing. thrown into the hellscape that is richmond, rejected by the woman he has feelings for, sold out by the woman he has feelings for, and left the pick up the pieces on his own.

          he’s not looking for company at the moment, so when he sees javi approaching, he immediately tries to nip any attempts at conversation in the bud.

          “ not now, javi, ” he warns, though his tone is more exasperated than annoyed. “ i’m not in the mood. ”

          he knows that he’s talking a mile a minute but, truly, he couldn’t stop right now, even if he wanted to. “ and YOU know CLEM?? CLEM knows YOU?? how-- how did you guys even meet?! ”

          whatever luke had been expecting from this more relaxed, laid-back night, javi KISSING HIM was NOT one of those things.

          it’s luke’s knee-jerk reaction to pull away almost as immediately as javi kisses him, expression bewildered. he’s not even sure what indication he might’ve given that would make javi think that he wanted him to kiss him like that.

          he’s not sure how to feel about it either. but he DOES know that everything feels... WEIRD now... and it’s not just the air between them, but luke’s BODY as well. his chest feels tight, his lips and cheeks tingle, and he’s got a million thoughts a second running through his mind.

          “ whoa, uh- ” he attempts to clear his throat and NOT sound so awkward. “ javi, i don’t uh... ” he doesn’t know how to say it. “ i’m not...really sure what that was for, but, i... i don’t... like you- in, uh, in- that way-- ”

          she knows that what happened to tripp isn’t her fault – that was all joan’s doing – but kate can’t quell the guilty feeling that relentlessly ravages her stomach. maybe if they had planned just a little more carefully tripp might still be there with them. maybe they would’ve never gotten captured and joan would’ve never forced javi to choose between them. maybe they could’ve actually all survived this thing and made it out of richmond in one piece. but thing could never just be that simple, could they?

          kate’s gaze flickers from ava and down to her incredibly worn sneakers. “ god, i– i’m sorry… i am so sorry, ava. that entire situation it was just– so fucked. ”
