If you're a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes the actual character then you're missing out on watching Elementary considering the characterization of Sherlock in this version is very true to the original stories. Plus there's actual time to develop a friendship between Watson and Holmes.
thank you :)
Almost Famous
never seen it | need to see it | hate it | ugh | it was okay | LOVED IT | asdfghjkl
I understand if you don't want to spoil but can you say any more about Eddie Redmayne's performance? He's the one I'm most excited for.
Basically if one went into Les Mis not knowing who Eddie Redmayne was, by the time they left they'd only really be talking about him. His performance in "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was flawless. Not only was his voice amazing (the timbre, the enunciation...arrrgghh I could go on and on), but his overall performance of the song was sober, nuanced and incredibly moving. Because it wasn't overdone, it was heart-wrenching. Like the guy next to me was trying really hard not to cry, but I could tell after the third time he cleared his throat that he was losing it too just like the rest of us.
For Eddie (and Anne, actually, in her performance of "I Dreamed a Dream"), there weren't a lot of camera movements or edits that were made to enhance their performances. The camera was just trained on them the whole time they were singing, which really made it seem intimate, like we were being told a story to directly. I really liked that even though this movie is big in scale, with elaborate sets and costumes, it had no problem scaling down in the scenes that mattered, which happened to be Eddie's and Anne's parts.
You'll also really enjoy him in "ABC Cafe/Red and Black".
If you're an Eddie fan, you'll love him even more in Les Mis for sure!
