is this the best place to follow along if I'm really interested in fandom hubzilla? I think I found your blog through a search for fediverse and im abt at the point where I'm ready to set up my own and just sit there.

If you are already at the point of setting up you own, that’s amazing! Some people on the distributed_fandom discord have created a fork of hubzilla and are experimenting with making it better for fandom. some of the work is on the side of changing the hubzilla fork to make it easier to use, implementing different features that fandom might want, and improving the UI. this is all faaairly preliminary? we are just starting to figure out some bigger-picture goals wrt UI. then there’s people working on making hosting and setting up an instance easier and lowering the technical bar to do so. some are working on creating checklists for the legal stuff, figuring out what server providers may be good for fans. others are experiments with hubzilla itself and figuring out how it works.  You can get updates here about some of that work, we’re hoping to have a weekly roundup of what’s been happening (the latest will always be available under “news.” The updates are called “fandom gets closer to the metal” and I tag them “dispatches” if that helps).  I’m sure the people working with hubzilla would love to have you and your instance to work with. you can access the distributed_fandom discord here: https://discord.gg/m55y4u

I think before this I used to make internet friends by like actually doing activities with them. but everyone seems REALLY already locked in? Or like. impossible to engage. If you ever feel like talking abt discord on discord 100% would. I’m in a non-fandom place too and I’m about to fuck up real bad. bc I need to ask for clarification on sth and ??? I know it’s not going to work out right : )))))

I was the same, I think, but the TF fandom is not nearly as active in the sort of projects I used to do, and all of my old fandom friends left eventually. Ugh.
