What about Kashmira and her parents arguing about Brian’s declaration? Because at least Kash understands...(LTFG anon)
“How is Jasmine?” Jer asked and Kashmira paused, frowning at her parents over her shoulder.
“She’s well,” Kashmira said, with all her fourteen-year-old dignity. The young Alpha Princess stood tall, fists clenched.
“And Farrokh?”
“His name is Freddie,” Kashmira said coldly. “Empress Freddie May.”
Jer’s smile faltered and Bomi frowned. “Of course,” Jer said, forcing some sweetness back into her voice, but she couldn’t quite mask her disapproval over Freddie’s chosen name.
Kashmira rolled her eyes, waiting for what they really wanted to say.
“Have you spoken to Far- Freddie about seeing us?” Bomi asked. “He’s upsetting your mother. If he wishes to see us, I’m sure the Emperor will relent.”
“You don’t get it, do you?” Kashmira demanded. “He doesn’t want to see you. The Emperor decreed it because Roger decreed it first. Because you upset Freddie. Because you frighten him. Because he doesn’t trust you not to hurt Jasmine.”
“We would never,” Bomi said furiously. “Kashmira, how dare-”
“Wouldn’t you? You hurt Freddie. You hurt him every day!”
“That’s different,” Jer said.
“Because he’s an Omega, right?” Kash shook her head, turning away and marching up the stairs. “Frankly, Mama, Papa, you sicken me. And it’s obvious you sicken the Emperor too.”
“Kashmira!” Bomi barked, but Kashmira wasn’t cowed.
“Do you know what the people are calling Freddie?” she asked, though she doubted they knew at all. “A phoenix. Not just because of his magic, but because of him. How brave he is. How he built himself back up.” She remembered the magic her brother had shown her, that beautiful golden light, and her eyes filled with involuntary tears.
“We didn’t even know he was a sorcerer,” she said sadly, almost desperately. Why couldn’t they understand? Why couldn’t they see? “He didn’t even know himself. That’s how suppressed he was. You seriously don’t see anything wrong with that?”
“I’m sure we can talk about this all rationally if he’d just agree to see us,” Bomi said.
“No, you couldn’t. Because you still don’t think you did anything wrong. You’re just angry you’re not getting your way anymore.”
