Kevin for the most part would trust Nico to take care of himself, cause Nico got so used to pretending to be an alpha that he doesn't need a very protective alpha but there are times when he needs that from Kevin or Kevin needs to be the protective one when he sees Nico being uncomfortable.

I can see a situation where maybe it becomes known that Nico's an omega, and someone takes great interest in him. Maybe a reporter or someone hanging round the paddock gets too close too fast and Kevin can tell Nico is on edge so he comes up behind his tall boyfriend and glares the other down. He'd growl a little too and the wrap an arm around Nico's waist to tug him into his side and make sure to scent Nico on the shoulder while making the other person (apla/beta) watch to make sure they know who Nico's alpha is.

If Nico is nesting or in heat, he gets very defensive. Sitting outside his nest or room to make sure no one Nico doesn't trust can come in. Keeping guard until Nico needs or wants him in with him.

In a sitatuion where there is danger (someone trying to attack the drivers), Kevin would have Nico behind him in the blink of an eye and he'd be growling, ready to attack or fight off whoever is threatening his mate.

Small protective things he would do: hickeys! Nico would always have at least one on show that makes Kevin smirk. He'd also scent Nico's clothes of buy hoodies in Nico's size, wear them so they smell like him, the give them to him (Nico finds it adorable especially cause they're always a little stretched out from Kevin's shoulders which makes Kevin grumble sadly until Nico coos and cuddles him)
