The next day at school
Tasneem enters the school,looking to see if anyone would talk to her about the sleepover she was having this weekend. Apparently it was an invite only,Tasneem's sleepovers were a big deal at the school. If you got invited you were officially popular. The girls in the halls would discuss who got invited and how they could possibly get invited. This was already making Tasneem feel better, hearing the girls talk about how they want to be invited to her sleepover. Tasneem just keeps walking to her class, she tries not to care about what anyone says about her. But on the inside, she feels so much better knowing those girls want an invite, as they want to get a glimpse of her âluxury lifestyleâ. Even as fake as it was. You walked into class,hoping to get a break from hearing about this for now. You sat down,only to find Tasneem sitting next to you. Tasneem immediately starts whispering to her friends about how expensive all the food and decoration and games are in her sleepover. Classes went by pretty quickly,and soon it was time for you to go home. You were standing by the gate waiting for your driver,when Tasneem walked up to you.Â
âHi..â She says this with her fake tone, she was trying to pretend like she actually cared about how your day went.
"Hey,did you need something?" You asked in a nice way
âWell, I just wanted to ask you if you were coming to my party this weekend?â She says this in the fakest friendly tone youâve probably heard. She starts playing with her hair, waiting for you to respond.
"You mean the sleepover? I'll be there,what time was it again?" You knew it was Friday night but you had totally forgotten to ask for the time. Â
âYeah, it's Friday night at 8pm.â She says this in that fake friendly tone again, she was waiting for you to say something about that.
"Okay,did you need something?"
âNo, I just wanted to make sure you were coming.â She says this while playing with her hair. While she was talking, your driver pulled up,and you could see Tasneem's friends Hiba,Rand and some other girls staring at the car. Your driver got out and opened the door for you.Â
"See you on Friday,girls" Tasneem watched as you were getting into the car with your driver.
Friday night at 8 pm
It's now the night of the sleepover. Tasneem is getting ready and her fake friends are also there at her house, helping her get ready. They already look so envious and jealous of Tasneem for being able to have you over.Â
"Mom it's gonna be fine,I'll call you if anything happens" You said to your mom,still sitting in the back of the car. Your mother looks like she is worried about you going, but then she finally gives up. She finally lets you go and just tells you to have fun and to make sure you stay safe. She just knows you will be going to party with the popular kids at school, she just really hopes that you'll be safe in such a group.
You waved goodbye to your mom as she left before you rang the doorbell. The door is almost immediately answered by Tasneem, she tries her hardest to act as genuine and friendly as possible to impress you. Sheâs trying to act like sheâs so used to having people visit her mansion. She quickly smiles at you. âHi, so glad you could comeâ She says this while playing with her hair in her fake friendly tone. You could tell by the way she was dressed that she was showing off,it was a designer brand.Â
"Hey,I have like five of those" You gestured to her pajamas,most people couldn't afford one left alone the five you had. The ones you were wearing were also designer but a more expensive brand then hers. "Nice place" You commented "It's very modern,very pretty" Tasneem notices that the ones that you are wearing were a more expensive brand than hers and that's when her jealousy starts to creep in again. She just stares at you, trying not to seem jealous but failing.
âThanksâ You followed her inside,seeing her friends sitting in the decorated living room. Surrounded by games and snacks.Â
"Hey girls" You sat down at the table with them. Hiba Rand Sarah,and two other girls who you didn't recognize,but they seemed to recognize you. Tasneem sat down next to you,taking one of the chocolate cupcakes and unwrapping it. She took one bite before her mother walked in carrying a tray of smoothies,Tasneem immediately hid the cupcake from her mother. Which no one noticed but you did. She tries to act casually but you could tell that she is panicking on the inside. Once her mother was gone she quickly took another bite of the cupcake, then acted like she wasn't hungry even though she was. She takes a sip of her smoothie with a fake smile on her face, still hiding the cupcake. You wanted to ask,but knew you shouldn't not in front of other people. Once she finished the smoothie and had another cupcake before excusing herself to the bathroom. You waited a bit before doing the same. You couldn't confront her about her ED without knowing if she actually had one. You put your ear to the door,listening in to hear if she was purging or not. You could almost immediately hear her purging. Tasneem seemed to not even be making much of an attempt to hide her eating disorder. Sheâd eat her food, and then quickly run to the bathroom to make herself puke. She was doing it over the toilet but the loud noises made you really worry about how many times sheâs done that. She seems to do it so casually as people usually try to hide it. Due to her perfect persona,her friends probably never noticed. Back at the cafe she did the same,excusing herself to the bathroom as soon as she finished her food. You picked up on it rather quickly,when you saw her hiding food from her mother,probably the reason for her ED. She seemed to be pushing her to be perfect. This constant need to be perfect made her hide food from her mother, just so she wouldnât be judged. You saw her pushing herself so hard, and it really was starting to show in her health. You quickly moved away from the door when you heard the flush,pulling out your phone to act like you didn't hear or notice anything. She walked out without saying anything to you,after using the bathroom you sat back down with the group. "Tasneem,is everything okay?" You asked,giving her an opportunity to see if she was open to talking. Tasneem stared at you for a few seconds, before finally deciding to answer you. She didn't know what to even say, she definitely didn't want to admit she had an eating disorder in front of her friends. âEverythingâs okay, why do you ask?â She says this while trying her hardest to maintain her fake friendly tone. She was waiting to see if youâd say anything else or if youâd let it go.
"Can I ask you something?" Tasneem was caught off guard, she looked scared of what you were about to say.
"You really expect me to believe that?" You asked, referring to her saying everything was okay. Tasneem was caught off guard, you caught her in her lie. She was trying so hard to make everyone believe that she was fine and that everything was okay. She didn't realize that just because she was able to make her classmates and teachers believe that, she couldn't do the same with you. "I'm not going to tell anyone but know that you can't lie to me Tasneem. I've seen everything and I can see right through you. You can trick your friends and your mom but not me. I can help you but I can't do that if you lie to me" Your comment made her freeze for a few seconds before she quickly tried to get herself back together. She didn't want you to know the truth, but she also needed you to help her. âWell, I donât know what youâre talking about.â Tasneem said she was really hoping you wouldnât call her out anymore.
"Well I tried,do what you want" She needed to think about what you had said to her, and how you knew she was lying. Right now she was in denial, she didn't want her problem to be actually as bad as it was. She went into her own bedroom and shut the door, she just needed some time alone to think for now. A few minutes later Tasneem came back. Rand was the first one to sayÂ
"What should we play?" She asked. Tasneem had come back out, she looked like she had just been relaxing for a bit. Everyone was waiting for her to suggest what game they should play. So she put her fake smile back on and pretended that she was okay. âUm,letâs play truth or dare.â She says this in her fake friendly tone, she liked this game as it usually led to drama, and she wanted to see if someone would say something that would interest her. Everyone agreed and Hiba asked the first question to Tasneem
âTruth.â Hiba giggled as she heard Tasneemâs answer, Hiba usually enjoyed making people reveal their personal information about themselves. She looked at the rest of the group before speaking again. âWho is your biggest crush at school?â Tasneem immediately went silent as she heard that question, she could tell that was coming as it was usually one of the popular questions. She took a few seconds before answering, she wanted to make sure she picked someone that would make her sound like she was popular as well. She quickly thought of someone that everyone knew to make her sound popular. So she finally spoke again using her fake friendly tone.Â
âDefinitely the most popular guy in school.â Hiba rolled her eyesÂ
"We go to an all girls school Tas" Tasneem clearly hadn't thought through that lie. Tasneem felt like an idiot after the way her lie fell apart. She had really not thought that through. She quickly tried to think of another answer that would make her seem popular. She had to be quick about this so she can redeem herself, but she didn't want it to come off as obvious. Tasneem decides to say something that would make it seem like she was interested in some "So Tas who is it?" Hiba asked,leaning over the table slightly
âOh just some girl from my classâŚâ
"Who?" Hiba asked once again.
"And name this time," Rand added.Tasneem was getting really nervous here. Hiba and Rand were really pushing her to give them an answer, and she really didnât want to but she couldnât tell them anything. She was trying to think of a way to play this off, but she was running out of answers.
âIt doesnât matterâ She says this hoping that sheâd be able to just play this off and they wouldnât push it anymore because she definitely didn't want them to know the truth.
"You know what that means?" Hiba said,before anyone could answer her she said "It means you have a crush on someone in this room,so who is it?" Tasneem was starting to sweat, she really didn't want to answer this question. She realized that there was really no way out of this now, there was no way she was just going to be able to play this off and say it doesn't matter. She could see the look on her friends' faces as she tried to act cool.Â
