“ughhhh! My head…”
Jennifer groans waking up.
To say she had a headache was an understatement. Her head throbbed and ached so much she had a hard time recollecting herself.
“Mink was right. Maybe I should tone down how much sugar I put in my coffee…” She mutters to herself. The sunlight shined and blades of grass tickled her hands as she sat up still feeling groggily.
Wait…
Grass?
Her eyes widen.
“Huh?”
Now fully awake she takes note of her new surroundings.
Along with gumdrops, assorted lollipops sprouted in the lush emerald grass. Multi-colored trees also grew here and there in the sweet theme meadow. Up above a bright blue sky held pink cotton candy like clouds, a vibrant rainbow and a yellow faced sun. Jennifer could hear birds singing in the distance somewhere.
To be honest it seemed like something straight out of a dream or cartoon she enjoyed watching.
Still amazed she stands up and dusts herself off. The pain in her head becomes dull as she begins to walk around a bit.
She notice the sun now looking at her in awe.
“Ummmm hello there?” She says confused.
Silence.
“Hello???”
Instead of answering her the daystar turned it’s attention elsewhere.
“H-hey! Don’t ignore me!”
Jennifer huffs. “How rude! And here I thought the sun was supposed to be nice.” She mutters to herself.
She turned to see what it was looking at.
A figure slowly climbed up the hill. They stopped every so often to tap what sounded like a tambourine. As they got closer Jennifer could make out some of their features. They orange hair blue eyes and a square chin. And they wore a light purple short sleeved shirt with dark purple overalls on. Matching bracelets adorned both or their arms. Pinned on to the overall was a smiley face pin and a green bow tie. They wore no shoes, just socks.
“Excuse me!” She called out catching the stranger’s attention.
“Ah! Hello there!” He (as far as she could tell from other’s voice) says rushing over to greet her.
“Hi!” She chirps back.
“You’re not from around here are you?”
“No but can you tell me where exactly here is?” She shakes her head. “I tried asking the sun but…” She trailed off realizing how silly she sounded.
“I’m afraid Sunny doesn’t really talk.” The male replies not seeming to mind.
“Oh, my bad.” She apologized.
Sunny gives her a reassuring smile.
“No worries, friend!” The ginger tells her. “As for your question- You’re in Smileland!”
“Wow.” Jennifer gasps.
“Oh where are my manners! I am Mr. Sunshine.” He says introducing himself.
“I’m Jennifer but my friends call me Jenny.”
“Do you know how I got here?”
“Nope…” Mr. Sunshine says. “But I am sure Mr. Rainbow would know!”
“Who’s that?”
“A friend of mines!” He replies. “I know! We can use the rainbow to find him!” As if it was called out to, the rainbow stretched out of the sky and touched the ground.
“Hm?”
Without warning Mr. Sunshine jumped on.
“Wait-” Jennifer called out.
“Don’t worry friend!” he reassures. “This rainbow is 0 percent safe and 1000% fun!”
“If you say so.” She smiles before joining him. To her surprise and amazement it was soft yet firm and tangible.
“Whoa!” She stumbles a bit.
Mr. Sunshine giggles as he helps her stand up.
“I told you!”
“So if we stay on the path, we’ll find him?”
“mhmm!”
”Wow! Now I feel like Dorothy!”
“Who?”
“Just a character from a story.”
“Oh”
“I can tell you about it if you want.”
“Yes please!”
“Okay!” Jennifer clears her throat.
The new friends begins to follow the rainbow path as she tells the story.
“Once upon a time there was a girl named Dorothy…”
