WEEK 38 - Alter Egos: Cloudmaster
I’ll admit it. I’m a fucking quitter. I’m also a lazy-ass.
Okay, let me explain.
So, you see this?
THIS was gonna this week’s entry. As you can see, I’ve been working on it since, what, April?
Well, I’ve had a week to punch it into shape, but it just didn’t happen. So, I turned to an old chestnut that I had in a notebook.
Something from WAYYYYYY back in 2001. And 2002. But also in another notebook for some reason.
From 2004.
But by the time I tracked these down, there was quite a bit of hype around a little Marvel character named Squirrel Girl, created by Steve Ditko.*
The point is, I changed the name of my guy (Squirrel Boy) to Flying Squirrel.
I’ll also add that the crimefighter at the beginning was named Loyalist, but I went with Lurker, since I’d used him on WEEK 16′s “Alter Egos: Dying Crane.”
Also, this was part of an admittedly sad era where I couldn’t resist from dropping the stupidest pop cultural references when they had NOTHING to do with what was going on in the piece.
So, to recap: • I’m a lazy-ass quitter • I was once a half-ass Tarantino • I’m THIS close to plagiarizing Ditko
Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy yet another part of my superhero play cycle, “Alter Egos: Cloudmaster.”
Cheers!
* Sure, you can argue that her very first appearance was in 1992, but I sure as hell didn’t know about her until the aughts.
