Altered Origin turned twelve today (yesterday), and to celebrate I finally got off my ass and made that pokémon trainer character generator I’ve been meaning to get to for ages! It spits out a trainer class, brief description, home region and even a team of one to six pokémon, resulting in a trainer that is most likely kinda silly but is hopefully still good for art inspiration, or even if you just need a throwaway opponent for a fanfic or something! There’s a wide range of trainer classes from all the main-series games as well as some other games and media, every single pokémon up through Gen 8 (so there are some mild spoilers if you’re still working through SwSh, but it’s just names, no pictures or anything), and a bit of nonsense of my own devising. Here, have some example output!
This trainer is a boarder, originally from Oblivia. They are broad-shouldered, love skorts and are aggressive. Their favorite type is Bug, and they love powerful Pokémon. When battling, they never give their team commands—their Pokémon always know what to do. Their dream is to get a real job.
Their team consists of Lairon and Zubat.
As I said, I pulled from more than just the main games when I went digging for classes, so some of them are kind of, uh, obscure. (Ten points that don’t matter to anyone who remembers what this class is without having to look it up.)
This trainer is one of Joe's groupies, originally from Ferrum. They are graceful, dress in shabby clothes and are annoying. Their favorite type is Fairy, and they love blue Pokémon. When battling, they favor using non-damaging attacks. Their dream is to get rich quick.
Their team consists of four Cloyster.
By default the generator won’t choose extremely rare pokémon (i.e., legendaries, mythicals, ultra beasts) because the average trainer doesn’t have those, but you can check a box to include them and, say, give your fancy Giovanni a fancy death god.
This trainer is the Team Rocket Boss, originally from Kanto. They are gangly, wear trendy clothes and are mischievous. They don't have a favorite type, and they love cool Pokémon. When battling, they rely on hindering their opponents with status conditions. Their dream is to be a Top Coordinator.
Their team consists of Granbull, Yveltal, Palpitoad and Sceptile.
That’s about it! I’m still adding a bit to some of the lists at the moment (personality, for example), will probably add even more stuff as I think of it later, and will hopefully get around to creating a few more settings (limit the pokémon selection to a certain generation, things like that). In the mean time, give it a go and let me know what you come up with!
