Been playing the FF9 mod “Alternate Fantasy” on Steam and let me tell you I have never had so much fun with FF9. Well I mean aside from the first time I ever played it. When you enjoy a thing you start learning all the intricacies about the game and instantly find out how to beat everyone. Gizamaluke kicked your ass first time? Lol lrn 2 use tents on enemies git gud scrub. It just feels old now, you know?
But Alternate Fantasy fixes a lot of that by taking what you know about the game and turning it on its head. It focuses a lot more on status ailments (What’s That!? blinds now, Fire can give Heat, Blizz gives Freeze and Thunder gives Slow, for instance) and you have to utilize them effectively to defeat enemies who now have higher defense but *not* higher attack. It’s so nice to know that while the enemies aren’t more dangerous, they’re still ready to kick your ass if you’re not prepared because you never know if Black Waltz 2 will use Fira and give Garnet and Zidane Heat while they were *just about to act fuck you BW2!*
I actually use a lot more healing because you can’t just murder bosses in three hits anymore, Minus Strike is actually a decent way of dealing damage, and most debuff spells actually *hit mein gott*. Demi actually works and you can use it to help Quina be able to eat things!! It’s a Christmas Miracle!
Also if you’re playing it on the PC Steam version then when you get Hilda Garde you can *Get A Fully Supported Beatrix With Support Abilities and Cutscene Capabilities*. Let that sink in for a moment.
If you got FF9 on PC download it. If you don’t have it on PC, get it on PC and then download it. You’ll thank me later. Link below! \/
