Gatta Cenerentola  (Cinderella the cat) Italy - 2017

This is sorta the best italian animation movie ever made, and it came out of nowhere, made in Naples with a ridiculously small amount of money and with a ton of heart.

And since it seems that I can’t add english subs on Youtube, I’ll put them under the cut è_é

[Angelica Carannante, the stepmother] “I’ve been waiting for 15 years for this day to come. Now look. Look. This is how it should have been. It should have been me.”

[Vittorio Basile, Cinderella’s father] “But, you see, we’re just the first chapter of the story. The best is yet to come.”

[Salvatore Lo Giusto, The Real Bad Guy] “Marriage is the only true instrument for social revolution!”

[Angelica Carannante, the stepmother] “It’s a tragedy! (…) Now, the child is under my care.”

[Primo Gemito, Cinderella’s “prince charming”] “I’ll come back for you, Mia. I’ll save you.”

[Angelica Carannante, the stepmother] “If it wasn’t for me taking care of you, you’d come to a very bad end…”

[Vittorio Basile, Cinderella’s father] “The ship observes us, it records us, it refashions us… and then it puts us on stage again.”

[Anna, the eldest stepsister] “CINDERELLA! CINDERELLA!!!”

[Barbara, the youngest stepsister] “Mommy, they’re wonderful!”

[Salvatore Lo Giusto, The Real Bad Guy] “Very soon, all that will be left of you will be a faded hologram…”

This short film uses a semi-comic style way of story telling and colors everything with patterns for gradiant shading. Sometimes ti switches to sketch drawing to add emotional weight.
