So, anyone else think the Lady from the Yellow Wallpaper was tearing down the wallpaper and writing her story on it in her own blood? Then she took the wet, bloodied wallpaper and restuck it to the wall. It's clear her husband would NOT let her have any writing tools, the room's too sparse to hide them in, every time she writes she gets weaker and starts hallucinating black spots moving around.

Then you've got people curiously looking at the wallpaper like it's moving around (from her tearing it off, writing on it, and sticking it back up), and everyone freaks out when she tears it all off in the end, which would've revealed backwards bloody writing on the walls and bloody missives all over the floor.

Lately, I have really begun to feel that Hera's sufferings have been invisiblized. Imagine you're the Queen of Marriage and Family and your husband's name comes on the top of the deafaulters' list every week??? And you can't even kill him? Or divorce him? Also, given how girls are taught about the "sanctity of marriage" from a young age, separating from him or involving other people in the problem has been internalized by us as a big no-no. What can you do? You ignore and let it slide once, twice thrice but multiple times?? (Folks don't let it slide it at all.) So what do you do?? You target the ones you atleast have a chance of overpowering. (I'm by no means justifying or excusing the cruelties, just explaining them). You want to seek the control and security that you're not allowed. That which had been forcefully, deceptively and patriarchly taken from you. How, you ask? By deceiving yourself and making yourself content with the modicum of power you're able to accrue by making others miserable. By victimising the victims.

They had one unfortunate encounter with Zeus, she deals with him everyday. You may have a support system after the assault, she has none. You have gods to pray to and vent. She can pray to none. She has been reduced to a joke in front of the pantheon. The Goddess of Marriage whose own marriage is in shambles. The Goddess of Family who try however she might, cannot have one. The Queen of the pantheon but remembered only as Zeus' wife.

She was Gaia's too, just not loved as much. Just taught that His word is the last word. He is the source of your joy. If he makes you cry, then too bad.

She was Poseidon's and Hades' sister too but they did not protect her. Well, the moment she became the wife and sister-in-law, she ceased to be a sister.

She ruled others beside Zeus, not under him. But it seems his sceptre was more fearful than her crown.

She would not let this slide. If Zeus wouldn't allow her to be the Goddess she was fated to be, she'll carve her own title. She'll be remembered as the Goddesd of Vengeance and Cruelty. Hera refuses to be a joke, not when it comes at the cost of her tears. She learnt how to be selfish from Zeus. If she cannot have a happy marriage and family, she couldn't care less about others'.

Note: this is an attempt to showcase Hera's misfortune. By no means was it intended to reduce other victims' plight. Apologies if it came across like that.

Fanfic ask game: OK

O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, orthe characters? 

Sometimes this, sometimes that. Sometimes is “what shenanigans could this character get into?” or “I’d like to write about a character with X characteristics, what kind of story could I tell?”, sometimes it’s “I want to write a story about Y happening, what kind of character do I need?”. In the case of Mistreatment, I started with setting, actually.

Well, I’ve seen several “mating season” fics that have Bog going utterly feral, but it’s OK because Marianne enjoys it? And yeah, no, I personally file that under “weird”.

So if we have Bog going sex-crazed feral while they’re out stretching their wings and he pins Marianne against a tree and frigging bites her if she tries to move and doesn’t speak and doesn’t seem to understand a thing when she says something and proceeds to fuck her until she’s bruised and bloody and passing out, she’s understandably freaked out, because the guy she loves just forgot how to process language and brutally raped her.

And when Bog comes to his senses he doesn’t remember what happened, but he can piece it together, and he’s freaked out because Oh My God what have I done, I need to help her but she probably doesn’t want me to get near her, let alone touch her ever again.

But she needs his help (and it’s so unfair he seems to have more reserves of strength while she’s helpless), so he carries her off to a spring to clean up and“Marianne, careful! You’ll get your wings wet!”“I’ve got cum stains on my wings. I can’t deal with this!”

So yeah, we have Marianne injured, helpless and humiliated, and Bog horrified of what he has done, and that giant as-of-yet unspoken “What exactly triggered that? Can we avoid it in future? Is this normal?!”

(And me being me, Marianne insists on asking Griselda, because if Bog gets that from his father she might know something and, “No, he gets that from me. His father found it delightful. Of course, if I ever got too much for him he could have just picked me up and held me at arm’s length until I calmed down.” And the ensuing conversation includes it coming out that this was a very extreme case, not normal, and also What do you mean you don’t know what masturbating is? If your father weren’t dead, I’d kill him myself; he assured me he told you everything you need to know and didn’t need another Talk from me.

And yeah. Avoidable problem, but pretty angst inducing before that comes out to light.)
